A pharmacist’s advice concerning coming off beta blockers was to taper off for one week of each year of taking it.

The best way is to do so under a doctor's supervision - did your GP or cardiologist tell you to wean off or is this a decision you've taken on your own?

This is a decision I want to take on my own. Im tired at work after taking the medication

Thank-you for the reply. Forgive me if you've answered this 'down-thread' but why were you prescribed it?

It was for palpitations and ending up in a&e four times from work.

Im at the Freeman next Wednesday for a DIAGNOSIS and treatment plan.

Please be sure to update us on how the appointment goes. Many of us are on it, at least one member is struggling with weaning off, so we're interested, and we care:)

DizzyB. I just stopped - no problems BUT you should not do this without consulting your cardio team/GP. Good luck_Pablo 😎⚽️🍷

Surely your GP will be advising you on this?

My cardiologist just stopped them, and can't say that I have had any adverse reactions.

I was on 2.5 and just stopped taking them on the advice of the cardiologist. I had no side effects but I’d only been on them for 4 months.

My cardiologist told me I'd be on them for life

Mine did as well. Personally I am so pleased with the results that the few minor side effects aren't bad enough to want to stop taking it.

Yes I too was taken off after a couple of days by my cardiologist. I started to feel better within a week. However a note of caution in my case my heart rate was already slow so Bisoprolol was slowing too much. It would depend on your own condition. Ask your Cardiologist is best advice.

Only do this on advice from your medical professional. It's not something you should decide independently.

I suspect it may depend on how long you have been taking them. I was on 1.25mg and hated them. I was only on them for about 8 weeks, so I just stopped taking them, on the advice of my GP I hasten to add. The very next day I noticed an improvement, however I still had some slight effects for the next 7 to 10 days.

I also have genetic HBP and just stopped it - I spoke to GP about it and we agreed I’d go from 2.5 to 1.25 then after two weeks on that dose, just stop altogether. I had no ill effects and achieved my aim which was to stop that horrible exhausted/hungover feeling where I couldn’t get out of bed in the morning and it would take me hours to get going.

However, eventually the palpitations and stomach lurching feelings returned, so I started it again.

Isn't 1.25 mg the lowest avialable dose? I suppose you could cut the tablets in half and take those daily for a while , but I just stopped taking 2.5 mg and didn't have any problems.

It's amazing how Medication affects us all in different ways. Yesterday I asked my Heart Nurse could I increase back to 10mg from 7.5mg and I was met with a flat No, because it wouldn't do me any good !! It appears my max is 7.5mg.

Have you tried taking it in the evening, or cut it in half and take half in the morning and half in the evening? You were prescribed them for a reason, so you shouldn't just stop.

I got my cardiologist to switch me from Bisoprolol to Carvedilol because of side effects. They are better for me.

Sounds a bit wet, but I can't recall why I started on 2.5mg about 9 years ago. I've forgotten to take it a couple of times, but had no ill effects. I did have some issues with different brands of Losartan - some made me jumpy, so I think that might have been why I was prescribed Bisoprolol. Now I've found an OK brand of Losartan - tempted to see the GP and suggest I stop the betablocker.
