I am afraid there is nothing "minimally invasive" about spinal surgery. I did have decompression years ago due to (among other things) stenosis. Got rid of severe sciatic pain but I still have lumbar pain. I just keep moving.

I have stenosis, scoiosis, spndilitis, T12 syndrome and fibromyalgia both thoracic and lumbar. I've lived in chronic constant pain for 20 years. My pain consultant won't even consider surgery because NOTHING is minimally invasive. Any form of spinal decompression is huge. There's a good article here. orthoinfo.aaos.org/en/treat.... Depending on location it does avoid a large cut through muscles but still involved removing chinks of bone or dic. It is chosen only when the exact location of the cause of the pain is found.

I think age and any other conditions would have effect on the outcome as well as personal motivation as with any serious surgeries.

How old are you if you don't mind my asking. My Mum may have this proceedure.

I am 63 and am going to see a doctor today and 1 tomorrow to decide..

Good luck to you. My Mum is 76 and has many physical and mental health issues, physical issues exacerbated her mental health :(

Thanks JR,

I saw a doctor today who performs this procedure but in a roundabout way told me that it may help me but I might be too severe and started talking about spinal fusion. I have another appt tomorrow and then an appt with a surgeon on the 19th. At that point I will have to make a choice. I wish your mom much success and better health as constant pain takes its toll. Thank you for responding and if I can be of any help information wise please reach out!

Thanks,

Chuck
