Rivaoxaban and surgery

I am taking Rivaoxaban for PAF.

Caused after I had OHS for leaking valve. However I now have an inguinal hernia for which I require surgery.

Has anyone got any experience of having surgery while taking Rivaoxaban especially hernia repair?

I have previously been told u only need to stop Rivaoxaban for only 24 hrs before surgery.

However I have now been told I have to stop 5 days before.

But u are not supposed to stop suddenly due to severe withdrawal symptoms!! 😮

Some of these are sudden formation of clots, stroke, suicidal thoughts depression or even death!!

However I also don't want to bleed to death.

I have already had one surgery but they told me take medication as normal.

So wasn't an issue.

This sounds a long time - I believe 24/48 hours is more normal. Have the team liaised with the anticoagulant team? Sometimes anticoagulants are stopped for a few days and Heparin injections used to bridge.

Also other meds may be dropped. I had to stop my ACE inhibitor for my bypass and a subsequent operation.
