My consultant has suggested I come off my 2.5mg Bisoprolol daily pill. (Open Heart surgery 9 months ago.) From reading posts on the forum, I get the impression that going to 1.25 might be sensible for a bit but he thought it would be ok to just drop down to 0. Just for info, how easy is it to cut a 2.5mg pill in two? Is it advisable? Should I debate this with my GP?
Thanks for any advice in advance!

You can get a pill cutter but every time my dose of Bisoporol has been reduced my GP has given me a new prescription - he doesn;t approve of trying to cut pills. My walking friend (we meet to encourage each other to do the daily 40 mins) has just had an ablation and everything is fine and he was lyrical about how well he felt. He just stopped taking Bisoporol and overnight his heart rate leapt up to 150. He rang the hospital and they told him to start taking it again and he has had no problems since. Like everything I suspect it depends on the individual - my consultant definitely told me (HA and stent) don;t suddenly stop...... you need to discuss this with your GP. Good luck - I hate it as a drug but on a low dose I cope really well with it - something I never thought I would say!
Trust me I would cut it down in half for a week and then into quarters for a week..I definitely would not just quit it your heart will go 'What are you trying to do to me!'. I know this as i have done it. Ended up back on it to lower HR and then tried again with half. It is not easy to get it exact but with a bit of trial and error you shouldn't feel any after effects..😀
Hi Paul you can get a prescription for Bisoprolol 1.25 so that maybe an option. As calliope has said you can get a pill cutter but I would discuss with your GP and pharmacist the best way to reduce the dose. Pharmacists have a greater in depth knowledge of drug actions and interactions. Hope you get it sorted. Take care. Zena
Thank you Calliope153 and Brandibell and Zena166 and Melbuckton - your advise is excellent and appreciated. I will try ringing my GP (easier than making a face to face appt).
