Hi SANH65

It is possible to have a heart attack without blocked arteries due to non obstructive coronary artery disease NOCAD also referred to as INOCA Ischaemia non obstructive coronary arteries.

Known as a MINOCA

Myocardial infarction non obstructive coronary arteries

Whatever the name the condition is poorly understood and recognised.

Though awareness is growing.

The common causes are vasospastic angina causing a prolonged temporary narrowing of one or more coronary artery a Coronary artery spasm.

Microvascular angina and Spontaneous coronary artery dissection are other possible causes.

Troponin is a protein released by the heart muscle when it has been bruised or damaged by a lack of blood supply to the heart or other trauma such as surgery or infection.

A rise of above 16ng/ L of Troponin in women is usually considered to show that the heart muscle has been affected.

The BHF website has this information about Vasospastic angina .

I suggest you discuss your questions with the Cardiologist when you have your next appointment.

Have you been referred for Cardiac Rehab?

Hi milkfairy yes I have been registered to see cardio rehab but sadly couldn’t go due to having flu so rebooked for 19 /2/20, the reason why I’m asking is my work is now asking for all correspondence from hospital/ docter as I was hoping to go back to work this week, I don’t know if I should now wait till I see cardio rehab and my cardiologist on the 30/1/20 before going back to work. I understand work has to cover themselves for insurance reasons

Do your employers have an Occupational health department?

It maybe necessary for you to have a phased return to work and that is why your employers are requesting some further information from you.

How do you feel about going back to work?

It can feel very overwhelming when you first return to work after such an event as a heart attack.

It can be suprisingly physically and emotionally exhausting.

Have you discussed returning to work with your GP?

Perhaps waiting until you have seen your Cardiologist before returning to work is a good one?
