Pre- med done
I also had pre op done and awaiting date for surgery. I will probably have a meltdown once got a date. At the moment I'm still a bit in denial it's even happening.
👍what u having done ?
Valve replacement surgery. You?
Valve repair and bypass 😩
Had aortic valve replaced 37 years ago and still going strong. Keep smiling. 😀
Wow. That's great to hear. Is that a metal valve? I'm not so optimistic of that time frame as mine is to be a tissue valve.
Hi, just seen your post, your denial comment made a lot of sense to me. I had aortic valve replaced and bypass done 3 years ago and even now when I see my scar I still think wow it really did happen! I wish you the very best I can honestly say I have been fine, if you have any questions please ask.
Thank you. Mostly in denial as absoltely no symptoms or unwell at all. So to be made unwell to get better is very tough to get my head round.
I’m the same was training for an Ironman triathlon and routine check and now heart surgery 😂😩👍
I can sympathize with you both. I was fit, exercised 5-6 days a week, combination of running and racket sports and on a visit to my GP a heart murmur was picked up and two months later I was having my aortic valve replaced. The good news was that as I was (relative to average age for this procedure) young and fit, was an ideal candidate at very low risk. I'm now just over 8 months post op and back playing my racket sports 2-3 times a week and hopeful that I can get back to running soon too.
I wish you both good luck and like other helpful posts any questions then please ask.
Hi, you are starting from a good place if you are reasonably fit before your op you will certainly get back quickly, doing your rehab will be a piece of cake! Please do your rehab I found it as much for my mental health as for my physical. Being around people who have gone though the same or similar things as you have, you don’t feel alone. Or an oddity!! I really wish you all the best you will be fine. As I said any questions just ask.
Relax its a routine operation nowadays and think how much better you will be a couple of months after it. The porter wheeling me down to the operating theatre told me that I was the calmest patient he'd ever had. The worst part is when they get you out of bed on day two and march you down the corridor and up a flight of stairs and back.
They did at least have chairs at strategic positions to let me get my breath back.
The waiting for the op is the worst bit. Use the time to practice getting up and down from your chair without using your arms - you’ll only use them once after your op cos it hurts like hell!

Hi, I had bypass and aortic valve replaced 3 years ago. Please try not to worry I know easier said than done, I was in hospital for the week after the op 2 days intensive care and 2 days high dependancy. The rest normal ward. One thing I would say to you is do all the rehab, apart from getting your stamina back having contact with other people in the same boat as yourself is such a help. All those Aches and pains you have they have! I wish you the very best of luck you will be fine, hope you don’t have long to wait.
Had my cabg April 2018 I found the worst part being shaved. There was an emergency so my op got pushed back a week then I had to be shaved again. You women don't realise how lucky you are.ah ah x
