I take warfarin at 10.30pm. If I miss a dose is it OK to take it early next day and then continue doses as normal.

Why wait till 10.30.if you take other medication take it at the same time if you go to a clinic for testing take it in the morning 2 or 3 hrs before you go that way you buy some time. I myself self test at 6 pm and take my warfarin at 7 pm along with other meds. I phone in results next day. After 46 years it works

I'm confused. Are you saying take Coumadin before you go to the lab for testing?

I am saying do not leave it to the end of the day giving yourself no leeway. How about 16 to 18 hundred hrs. It is all down to common sense

Seems a slightly odd time to take medication. I would probably nod off and forget. Werd's suggestion sounds good.

Hi Heythrop. I take my cocktails at approx 10am and 10pm. But then I don't normally go to bed until after 1am, so it depends on your waking hours :)

Is there anyway you can set an alert on your phone to remind you to take it. Missing doses will effect your labs as you know.

Having worked in a hospital it's suggested it be taken in the evening. That's so you get the result of the INR reported and dose adjusted for that day.

Thanks for replies. I take it at night as I have other meds to take and it reduces their side effects if I go to bed quite soon after. Doctor said as long as I take it with 12 hours of missing it it is OK if not miss the dose.

I was told to let the warfarin clinic know in case I missed any dose.

Possibly depends on the reason you are taking warfarin for and also how much you need it.

For me is a life treatment due to my mechanical mitral valve and I take a very high dose, 15 mg per day.

I leave my warfarin on my bedside table and it is the first thing I do before I go to bed.

Like this is easy for me not to forget

In my opinion, the timing of the taking of warfarin is really up to you and your lifestyle. I know people who take it just before bed, as routine as cleaning their teeth. I prefer to take it with my evening meal -- though the time of that varies considerably. Whatever works for you.

But, if you miss a dose and notice later in the middle of the night, do you take it? The general advice is if you notice a few hours later then take it. If you notice more than a few hours later then do not play catchup. Let the missed dose stand, then take your normal dose at the normal time the next day. Inform the one who doses you when you next test.
