Bisoporol tomorrow

Hiya. After 7 months of been taken in to a&e from work with palpitations, racing heart I start Bisoporol tomorrow. I couldn't take it anymore.Im scared after seeing 2 cardiologists. One believes it was stress/anxiety and the ectopic beats are benign whilst the other stated it can be dangerous and I need medication. Starting off with 1.25mg.

Hi DazzyB. Is there anything that concerns you? 1.25Mg is the lowest dosage you can get and the Bisoprolol will stop the Adrenaline speeding your heart up. I’ve been on it for 3 years since I had a heart attack and feel fine.

Cheers steve. Just the thought of medication effecting my heart in what may be panic attacks. Im at the stage where I had to do something as I was unable to carry on at work and my family were keep having to come into a&e late at night when I have a 4yr old daughter

Recently had a severe allergic reaction to a curry which came from nowhere after eating them all my life and I worry whether I will have one when I take this medication

I’ve never heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to Bisoprolol but I guess there could be something in it to pack it out that could cause a reaction. But I’d be very surprised. I’m certain you’ll be fine. Let us know how you get on. If you’re very anxious you could try some mindfulness exercises or see if you can get some counselling via your doctor. With any luck it will make all the difference and sort out your palpitations.

i can offer some helpful advice Dazzy B.if you have heart problems then the heart is the pump that affects EVERY ORGAN in the body.this is why you may struggle to digest food etc and a myriad of other minor symptoms.i have the same medicine/symptoms and as the dose is increased i do feel better.

.A panic or anxiety attack is quite common and is easily brought on compared to when you were fully fit....Close eyes breath through both nose and mouth and focus only on relaxing and your breath.count each breath slowly and deeply -you will soon find you can quickly pass these episodes-nick

Hello and welcome to the forum! Good advice from Steve. I have been on Bisoporol for eighteen months since a quadruple bypass. The only issue I have had is a degree of tiredness in the evenings.

Was your reaction to the curry a full allergic reaction or an intolerance? Did you make the curry or was it a takeaway? The problem with takeaways is you never really know what goes into it!

A friend with ectopics has virtually eliminated them by removing alcohol, caffeine, chocolate and spicy food from his diet. Could your reaction to the curry be related to this?

hf54 in reply toMichaelJH

Hi this is very interesting about removing the epitopic beads. I know that caffeine is a stimulant can you check with your friend and see if this is really the case and most interested thank you

My sister and I, had lunch with my friend and his wife. Naturally the subject of our hearts came up (the ladies are fine). He was very specific about these exclusions as he was able to give up medication. At the end of the meal he had mint tea as the waitress was vague about decaffeinated options.

Hey,I'm on Bisoprolol started 1.25 then had doubled for a long time now back to lowest dose again.I know or have heard can cause probs with sleep and can affect BP cause it slows ya HR it will ofc in turn lower ya BP.Also hey Beta Blockers have been used for Anxiety attacks so either way you good to be on them whether was a Panic attack or more serious. They will do the trick but hope you are still getting monitored incase you do have Heart probs and need more meds or treatment.

hf54 in reply toChronic25_Catlover

hi why did they reduce the BP again?? thanks nick

Hi sounds as if your journey has started in the way many of us have. 1.25 is a very low dose & will help your heart . Just go ahead with any tests your cardiologists suggest & take it from there, read some of the other members experiences too. Best wishes.

Hi, understand fully what your going through I’m on bisoplorol same dose for my palpitations/panic mainly for the Palpitations as they was causing the panic attacks still do ! I also worried about having a allergic reaction and it’s no wonder you are after experiencing one after your curry ! The cardiologist who said it can be dangerous what did he exactly mean ? Did he say the type of palpitations you have are dangerous ? Will they be doing more tests?

DazzyB profile image
DazzyB in reply toTabbyjune

Hiya. He wont do more tests and stated I need to break the cycle which is palpitations and Anxiety/Panic. Day 1 today and going to bed shortly. Just feel not with it and slightly light headed. Today I have had alot less palpitations after 7months of constant worry so im feeling optimistic about this medication

The arrhythmias I have could make me pass out and thats why he said they are dangerous. To be honest he wasnt interested and I just felt like a number.

I saw a different cardiologist at the private spire hospital and he said they wete benign but I have been collapsing at work during an attack which is humiliating. He thinks its Anxiety I have but put on his letter that he wonders whether it is a different arrhythmia. Waited for 4 months and stated he could put a loop recorder in chest if symptoms persisted. Cant affird to go back to him though.

Tabbyjune profile image
Tabbyjune in reply toDazzyB

The breaking the cycle of palpitations can be very difficult but I have good days and then very bad days, defiantly don’t feel humiliated I know that’s easy to say but nobody choose for this to happen can you not go back to nhs doctor and say you went private and he suggest a loop recorder? He should of actually sent a letter to your actual gp my private one did don’t give up

hi again dazzyB you need to rest/lay down a lot compared to the actual ammount of sleep you may feel you need. i go to bed at 10pm read for 1 hr lights out 11pm get up 9am. bed in afternoon for 2-3 hours.dont worry if you cant sleep throughout.the important thing is the rest to help your body/mind heal-nick

Hi, I have been on Bisporolol for years, 2.5mg. It is generally a well tolerated drug with most people having no side effects other than a slow heart rate. Mine is around 52bpm ish.

Keep an eye on your BP as it can also drop this.

Chronic25_Catlover profile image
Chronic25_Catlover in reply toroad2ruin

Mine has never been that low haha and I'm on Bisoprolol Ramipril and Aspirin ,my Beta Blocker got halved dueto constant low BP.Low for me HR wise is 75 maybe 60 something usually it's 75+ it is under 100 so clearly the Beta Blockers is staving off Tachy.Mine should be about that aha as I'm young even my Uncle is about that and he's pretty old haha he has no Heart probs either he's blessed with good health booo I need some of that, yep you have a pretty good HR there!

I've been on Bisoprolol 1.25mg+300mg aspirin once daily (I take mine in the morning) since April 2019. I love it, I haven't felt this well in years - and that's even though I'm still trying to recover from an acute flare of my recurrent pericarditis. In my case it was prescribed to 'calm' my exceptionally strong heartbeat and it's working very, very well.

The only side effect I had at first was not being able to stay awake much past 9pm. Others on the same low dose have reported odd dreams and some disturbed sleep patterns but that those side effects went away after a few weeks on the medication.

What dose are you on? From what I reckon from listening to other users, the higher the dose the more profound the potential side effects..

I must be a sensitive soul. 1.25mg. Had 2nd one at 0900 today and again within 10mins felt i was going down in a lift. Feel like im in the distance and not with it but must admit not as bad as yesterday.

I couldn't tolerate the lowest dose of Bisoprolol, tried it for a while, tried taking it at night, tried taking less but the side effects never got any better so I was taken off it, my husband also struggles with it.

hf54 profile image

hi bantam12 what were the side effects for you both-wish you the very best

Sunnie2day profile image
Sunnie2day in reply toDazzyB

I'm 'sensitive' as well, it's why they started me on the 1.25mg and when I responded so very well, kept the dosage there rather than go up a notch (or three, I cannot imagine what 5 or 10mg would do to me!).

Lol, when I had my angio in November the cardiologist slipped up and used a definite non-PC term (he said to my husband I must have been a 'cheap date') to describe his observation of my response to the anxiety relief administered just before the procedure.

I've said the same to my husband so we weren't offended - to us a cheap date is someone who is happy with a half-glass of wine and a walk along the promenade with a bag of chips. I don't drink so I'm even cheaper:)

I take half a 1.25 bisopralol tablet in the morning. This reduces my heart rate and blood pressure. If needed I take a 1.25mg cilazapril tablet at night. I also take a 300mg aspirin at night. My BP and heart ate seem normal when I awaken.

Hi , my current dosage of Bisoporol is 10mg (along with 6 other heart related medications) and I may have had some issues getting used to it , but all is fine as we speak. I would say from personal experience that any form of stress and anxiety (I take medications for both) will have an effect so avoid where possible.

I have found the 1.25 mg of Bisoprolol makes me more chilled and less anxious, if a bit more tired. Takes a few weeks to adjust, but you will definitely feel more relaxed.

hf54 profile image
hf54

1.25mg is the starting dose because these heart medications can be incredibly dangerous for some people. This is why they always start you are in very small doses unless they are absolutely sure. The medicine will take a while to start working and your recovery will be slow but it does work. I’m on the same. If you have trouble sleeping try Nytol Do not use prescription painkillers the one mentioned above is available over the counter and don’t use the herbal version are used to real version when you get yourself a bit more stable you can supplement with paracetamol which really helps and obviously the cardiologist will give advice way above and beyond what I can. Finally if you have money don’t sit around waiting months for appointment go private and the range of testing they do is far more thorough nothing is more valuable than your health I wish you the best

1.25mg is a very low dose and nothing to worry about. If anything, you will start to feel a lot calmer and more relaxed. I’m on 5mg’s and feel so much better and able to stay calm when I work. My job is very stressful and my heart rate and BP would be constantly at dangerous levels.

hf54 profile image
hf54 in reply tondav63

hi ndav63 can you give us some sort of history as to how you felt as the dose started and then gradually increased. It would be interesting and encouraging-thanks

ndav63 profile image
ndav63 in reply tohf54

My Cardiologist started on 2.5 mg’s for 2 weeks and then told me to increase to 5mg’s. I find it better to be taken at bed time as it did make me feel a bit slow if I took it in the morning. As I mentioned previously, I was put on it for having a heart rate way above the norm. Although my heart rate has settled to a healthy 60 - 70 beats a minute. I have found that I have more ectopic beats (extra beats) than I do before. It feels as though my heart is attempting to go faster but is held back by the medication. Feels like my heart is trying to gallop but can’t as someone is pulling on the reigns. That’s the best way I can describe the feeling in my chest. Can feel really uncomfortable sometimes as it can go on for hours.

Hope that helps!

Hi, I went to A and E a few years ago with palpitations, Atrial Fibrillation. Started on same dose as you, no problems whatsoever. Try not to worry, all it does is steady the heart, and if necessary your cardiologist may increase the dose. Best wishes.

Hi Dazzy

Just see you have commenced on Bisoprolol for palpitationsI was also given this for palpitations unfortunately I have had quite a few side effects so am now weaning off very very slowly. I have found taking 400 mugs of magnesium citrate every day has helped my palpitations. My doctor has said that this was ok to take with Bisoprolol. Look at utube Dr Sanjay Gupter a York Cardiologist and he explains all about palpitations and what you can do to help yourself. I also found the more I stressed about them the worse they got.

Hope this helps. Good luck
