Still working out this health unlocked. I am struggling with atrail fibrillation at the moment. It’s almost a permanent state of affairs and it’s getting me down. I don’t drink alcohol anymore and I am a week into being a non smoker. I really don’t want a dr looking into my af and I definitely don’t want any operations. I really don’t know how to manage this. I can’t ignore af anymore. What do you guys to for relief? I need more meds probably. Hopefully they have lots of different meds...fingers crossed

I suggest you go over to the AF association forum as they are the experts.

What concerns you about seeing a doctor?

A friend with AF is now off medication.. Besides alcohol he dropped caffeine, chocolate and spicy food. Might be worth a try...

Yes will go see one ASAP. Thanks

Who diagnosed the AF? I hope it was a doctor, but wonder what advice they gave you at the time. Not going to your doctor for further help is very ill advised

I was the same but you have to go I'm afraid. Otherwise things are likely to get worse. If you have the will to stop smoking then you can brace yourself to see the GP! Good luck.

AF can be treated almost exclusively by meds. The big risk is that you might have stroke. The medics may recommend anti-coagulants to avoid it. Next they usually recommend a beta blocker called Bisoprolol to slow your heart down a bit. That works for many people but not everyone. They have a whole arsenal of alternatives they can use until they find one that works for you.

You do not have to have an operation. They may want to perform a cardioversion - that is not an operation and is quick and painless. It may put you back into normal rhythm at least for a while. The nearest treatment to an operation is an ablation - and that is not necessary if you don't want it.

Please get treatment. It might stop a whole load of problems further down the line.

Might be worth having a chat with a nutritionist as well. Some people find that certain foods such as sugar and coffee can act as triggers and diet / lifestyle changes can be very effective for some.
