I have recently changed from bisoprolol to carvederol as i have severe Raynaud's Dr. says all beta - blockers don't suit Raynaud's . Anyone with experience of these two tell how they affect?

Yes, I started off 12 months ago on Bisoprolol and slowly got colder and colder, by May hands and feet cold all the time, nose running, central heating on 24/7 at 23 degrees, new 14.5 tog duvet, still freezing cold.

Finally got it changed to Carvederol in July. So far this winter I'm much better, still feel the cold more than I used to, but nothing like as extreme as I did on Bisoprolol. Central heating now running at a sensible temp and turned down at night, no longer freezing in bed, and now able to go out for long walks - had to give up on them at the start of the year, so yes, I've changed over and feel much better. Hope you feel the same benefit

Thank you so much for this very positive reply. I am by nature a worrier and was concerned if I had done the "right" thing ! I will press on and hope for a good outcome. Know the feeling of switching duvets and turning up heating all too well!

By the way love your username.

Hi foxglove

I live with Raynauds Phenomenon and vasospastic angina.

I cannot tolerate any type of beta blocker.

Carvederol is still a type of beta blocker.

When you start taking the Carvederol I suggest you keep a diary of your Raynaud's symptoms.

If you do have problems go and discuss this with your doctor as there are alternatives to beta blockers that you can be prescribed.

I hope you are keeping warm.

Yes I know carvederol is a beta - blocker but if I DONT take beta - blocker my heart rate rises and as I've had heart probs. it is important to control HR.

Thanks for reply and I'm keeping warm, hope you are too!

I have had problems with my heart rate too because of my heart condition.

I was prescribed Ivabradine to regulate my heart rate instead.

It is always a balancing act. I hope the Carvederol works well for you.

Looking forward to a warm summer 🌞

Balancing act indeed...and how. Fingers crossed re. carvederol and of course a warm summer!

I have the same issue, I’m on bisoprolol and my hands and feet are constantly freezing, my toes go white and numb and so do my fingers, my feet were purple the other day 😬 I see my cardiologist in feb so il discuss about changing it. Have you noticed an improvement since being on carvederol?

Thanks for all the alternate meds instead of Bisoprolol.

Need to ring my doctor urgently and need that revieving. Bisoprolol is causing me a lot of circulation problems in my legs and feel its increasing my PAD, peripheral vascular disease.

I also get very tired in the afternoon or find it hard to work from 5pm until midnight. I am a kitchen porter so some shifts are whenever throughout the day!

I changed from beta blockers to calcium channel blockers at my request. No more cold hands and feet, or runny nose. Google pills.

Thanks, I was changed to a calcium channel blocker (verapamil) but although it helped with circulation my heart rat e went up so went back on beta-blocker - bisoprolol again but I'm hoping the change to carvederol will help!

My cardiologist refused to change my Bisoprolol, but my numb feet are seriously affecting my ability to exercise and my mental health, so I will mention Carvederol when I see him at the end of January. Good luck, Foxglove :)

Thanks for good luck wishes also to you. It's my fingers that suffer most, so embarrassing when I try to present correct money in shops etc. My cardio appt is 7th Feb. so I'mcrossing fingers and touching wood that the change to Carvederol will be positive

Hi, good to get some recommendations here. I’m also taking bisoprolol 2.5 for heart rate and although I don’t feel too cold, my nose constantly runs. I recently caught 2 colds (one straight after the other) and the nose issue was far worse than any other colds I’ve ever caught before going on bisoprolol. I’m seeing my cardiologist late January, so will make a note of the 2 alternatives mentioned here.

For those who had the runny nose, did it stop when you changed? Thank you!

I have only been taking Carvederol for a few days and at the moment nose dripping I don't think quite as bad. Perhaps wishful thinking? It's so embarrassing to have a tissue clamped constantly to nose. I don't seem to catch colds but I am constantly being asked if I HAVE a cold

Thanks Foxglove! Let me know if it improves over the coming weeks. I’d love to leave those tissues at home 😂

Me too!!!! Have a supply wherever I go and sort of panic if I forget. Have resorted to wiping nose on sleeve like a naughty child when desperate. And sometimes passing strangers have given me tissues. I know this is trivial compared with the REAL suffering of a lot of folks!!!

That says it all, doesnt it?

Not taking Bisoprolol any more as it has a negative effect on me. Looked into the other 2 meds mentioned here, but reluctant to accept they will be any better!

I understand how you feel but we are all different and sometimes it's not the active ingredient in the drug that causes prob. all meds have different fillers and binders etc.. so unfortunately a long haul to find what suits. I am a bit of a doubting Thomas too but have to take beta-blocker of some sort to keep heart rate down. Calcium channel blocker did not work ....but a lot of those too!!!
