At Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital Today for Appointment with Dr Rao didn’t see her but one of her colleagues nice guy very helpful anyway the downside is I have H F with E F of 34 which I already knew any way the way forward is either a 2 wired ICD or a 3 Wired CRT-D ( rolls Royce of the defibrillators ) I’m told

12 weeks from today ( 02/03/20) is the planned date ( talk about wired for sound ) Bloody Hell How did I get here

Glad you are going forward but community guidelines forbid reference to specific consultants!

At least you know the date, Dave, & are not wondering how long it will be. When I saw my surgeon there he gave me a date for my bypass op at Liverpool there & then as well, perhaps it’s the policy there, I think Spirit of the Floyd was also given his date as well.

Hope all goes well.

Jean

Hi Daveofpensby,

I have just moved on to my second 3 wired ICD. A marvellous bit of kit! Simple procedure, longer for first implant as wires have to be positioned but still quite short. It takes a few days to stop aching but then it’s all systems go. Welcome to the Bionic Club!😀

I’ll be glad to get it done and move on

Hi Dave

Well done, some progress and a date of when they'll do it. I assume she will be the lead clinician doing the procedure - lovely lady, I seen her when I first went to discuss the options, very patiently explained everything to me.

You'll get a letter a few weeks before the date asking you to go in for a pre-procedure meeting where a nurse they will explain everything, and depending what medicines you're on, will tell you which if any you need to stop before the procedure.

As regards the actual day, I was asked to turn up at 8am, procedure done at 11am, takes about an hour, then ex-rays, BP tests and ECG tests for the afternoon - let out about 5pm - take a book, there's a lot of sitting around!

Good luck

The latest thinking due to progress with technology is that patients will in future be fitted with Type C USB ports to make it easier to connect new devices when needed!!!!! Brings a new meaning to Plug & Play.

It certainly does I wonder if you can get Wi-fi on it ( ha ha )

Good news David - hope it all goes smoothly and to plan.

When I first looked at my phone without readers I thought it was about LUNCH!

If you're there early in the day like I was, lunch was provided too!🥪

The progress between 2012, when I had my first ICD, and 2019, my second, was that I now have a box that sits near the bed. It links to my ICD, Bluetooth I suppose, and sends data to the hospital. One trip to the Pacemaker Clinic per year from now on.
