Hello everyone

Just a quick question anyone currently using the medication avabradine ? Been stared in it and wondered how others have felt on it? It’s being used to replaced Bisoprolol as it wasn’t agreeing with me !

I was changed from Bisoprolol to Ivabradine because of the fatigue, vertigo and low B.P. I take my B.P. weekly and that has been o.k. so far. I hadn't had a vertigo attack for 6 months until last night! Fatigue not much different but my head doesn't feel quite as fuzzy. The pharmacist informed me that they aren't prescribed much because they're £90 a month whereas Bisoprolol is cheap. So on top of everything else I feel guilty!! He wasn't trying to make me feel guilty , he was just disgusted at the pharmaceutical company.

It’s hard isn’t it knowing the cost but it’s also hard when some medication makes you feel unwell - I know that’s why I have been put on it. Fingers crossed it helps

Thankyou for your reply

Hi.

I have been on ivabradine for over 3 years but it was introduced into my medication to slow down my heart rate, rather than as a substitute for another medication. I am also still on ramipril, a beta blocker, a diuretic etc etc. I have had no side effects from ivabradine apart from my heart rate going right down to in the 40’s beats per minutes, which is not great! This is very rare though and generally it obviously works well....I am still here after all!!! I had no idea it was so expensive though. I was at a GP in France and when she saw that that was one of the medications I took, she told me that it was made in France but rarely prescribed there. Now I know why!

Thankyou for the reply x I didn’t realise it was so expensive either. Hoping things settle quickly as I’ve put put on it to see if it helps with some of the side effects of other drugs I’m on x

Hi, I was on Ivabradine but had stop it as I was seeing bars on the walls and snakes on floor, interesting but a bit scary. Of course not everyone gets this side effect but I thought I was loopy until I understood it was the medication causing it.

I was put on Ivabradine in June following second valve replacement.

I take it alongside Bisoprolol. Both are minimum doses.

I haven't been able to pinpoint any side effects but then I'm also on diuretics, Levothyroxine and tablets for gastric problems!

I hope you get on alright with it.

Thankyou for your comment the Bisoprolol didn’t suit me so hence the change - can’t decide if I feel better on this drug than before . I seem to always have some thing that’s not quite right lol🤣

Oh bless you. I think that's the very nature of these pills. It's trial and error in a lit of cases and what suits one person is highly toxic to another. Hope you feel better on this one.

I've been on it for a few years now no side affects at all. Mine was reduced to half a tablet a day as your heart rate shouldn't go below 70.
