e- GFR ( kidney function).

Just out of interest what are people’s e- GFR, mine hovers around the 70 mark, which when I consult with Dr Google scares the Bejeebers out of me. However, I was wondering whether or not it’s a heart medication thing.

Yes! Mine is 62 after over 50 years of diabetes. GP, cardiologist, DSN and surgeon all happy. Only advice has ever been: eat normal portions of protein, no high protein drinks and alcohol in moderation.

I don't understand your No are you saying continue to Google ?? if so that is irresponsible when you don't know the mental health state of the person googling or the educational capacity of the person you are advising Don't google if you are concerned ask the Professional Treating you !!!

ps my GFR is 77

in reply toPrada47

The ‘No’ was just a bit of banter aimed at my friend Lesley.

OK and your saying Leslie doesn't have much mental capacity, or educational nouse LOL Leslie is also a friend of mine LOL She has both nouse and Educational capacity unless she has been on the GIN when it is possibly in doubt !!!

Is saying ' stop googling'

A new maternal instruction equivalent to

' Stop picking your scabs/ nose etc.' ?

Only look at links sent by a sound source eg HappyJo😊

I like to think of it as a gentle reminder 😂 and yep to the sound source.

Thanks HappyJo, I did speak to the nurse at the GP’s surgery who basically told me to drink more water. My understanding is that ace inhibitors protect the kidneys and there functioning and I was wondering whether they did so by slowing down the kidney in a similar why that beta blockers reduce heart load, if that makes sense.

They don't slow down the kidney, they reduce intraglomerular pressure by reducing the efferent arteriol pressure

Mine went down to 50, phone call from a gp. He said we don't worry until it's 45, i said that will be the next time i see you then as last time it was 54. Silence. Next time it went up to 54 again. I was surprised to see I've been tested for this for ten years, neat little table on the hospital database. I'm not bothered, there isn't any treatment

Mine was 58 summer last year. Flagged red by Bluecrest - one of those private companies who do a range of blood tests and also an ECG. Off to GP who poo pooed the eGFR situation. She said you only need one kidney to function OK. Follow up though on ECG which eventually led to my diagnosis of micro vascular dysfunction in the autumn.

Since I've been taking the heart meds which help my blood vessels to dilate my eGFR has gone up to 72. Well pleased. Depends on your age but I would be happy with 70.

One reason for me thinking that MVA affects other parts of your body, not just the heart (despite a heart specialist telling me otherwise).

Could I ask which heart meds you're on?

I take isosorbide mononitrate, ramipril and atorvastatin.

One of the most important ones is having BP under good control.

Protein supplements and non-prescribed steroids can knock them out in a few years.
