There are some slight differences. For example Asians typically have lower creatinine levels and Afro-carribeans lower hemoglobin. These may be taken into account in making a diagnosis.

You should ask your GP to clarify things.

Sorry for saying races didn't mean to offend anyone. Just brain doesn't work as good now.

It's just I'm white British but my blood results state that I'm afro Caribbean. But blood results r all over place. Know I've got faulty gean that affects my good cholesterol. Just wondered if it was because of the faulty gean or because of been marked down as afro Caribbean

I'll ask GP.

MANY thanks

Jeff

Are you reading the results right? My husbands results always mention African carribean but it's just there as a marker.

I have been through my print out of my latest blood test results in detail and the only reference to Afro-Caribbean is the eGFR (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate) that measures how well the kidneys are working. If Afro-Caribbean the figure is multiplied by 1.212.

Yeah, that’s what I was referring to, though on husbands results it say multiply by 1.159.

In think it varies between laboratories to add to the confusion. The ranges definitely do! :(

Hi Michael

Just checked my latest blood test and it says Multiply GFR by 1.21 if Afro-Caribbean race (NHS)

Maybe I will do some statistical analysis when I get some more values. 😀 Or I might just say about 1.2! 😁

Both at A level and degree level statistics was one of my least favourite subjects. Whilst I enjoyed the maths I soon realised that the results could be manipulated. Tabloids and politicians are masters of this! :(

I have a friend with a First in Statistics and he always says don't believe a Statistic unless you have done it yourself !!!
