I thought natural sugars in fruit were ok.

I’m not a sugar guru!! But I think that certainly teeth wise, it’s much better to eat the fruit rather than drink the juice as juicing it causes changes in the sugar cell and instead of it being a walled sugar it becomes a free sugar.

So if you drink juice enjoy it at meal time rather than between teeth. This is especially important for children.

Also we miss out on the fibre in fruit and we probably wouldn’t eat the number of oranges that it takes to produce a carton of juice.

But as with all things balance and moderation work best.

Totally agree, making a smoothie with fruit also changes the sugars, eating it natural is the most beneficial way. Drinking a carton of fresh orange juice takes bout 7/8 oranges, would we eat that many in a day!! Fresh orange is best kept for the very occasional bucks fizz, usually on Xmas morning!

I’ll tell you what would be handy on this forum... a good qualified BHF nutritionist.

We have Buck's Fizz and Smoked Salmon with Scrambled Eggs on Christmas Morning . It's the best way to start the day !!!

Yep, that's our breakfast Christmas morning as well. It's traditional now

We have Buck’s Fizz and freshly baked croissants with Cornish butter, that fill the house with a gorgeous smell. Just the thing after a cold Xmas morning dog walk.

That makes sense. Thank you Speakeazi

WHOA Nellie - carbs 18.6g of which 10.2g is sugar?! Wouldn't that tip a diabetic over, or someone counting sugar carbs for other reasons?

No red boxes but there surely should be.

Saying this again - I miss the US food labels, usually listed in mg instead of g, and breaking down so completely nothing (or very little) is hidden and 'need to know' types find counting so much easier. From what I recall, those labels are watched closely by the authorities and hiddens are outed quickly.

Still, could be worse, since retiring home to the UK in 2010 I've discovered to keep better control of my health I have to cook everything from scratch - everything including nibbles. I'm now a dab hand at homemade crisps, for example.

Ready meals, oh hahahahahaha - anything remotely resembling a ready meal at my house is the result of my 'investment cooking' over two days to put homemade ready meals in the freezer.

My husband thinks he's died and gone to dog heaven as he can nip out to the kitchen and throw one of my 'ready meals' in the nuker for a midnight snack:)

:) Holdover from the years I worked in the US Deep South. Surprising what sticks with a person and pops up years later!

Hi Sunnie

What sticks in my mind from my days in the Deep South is how they used to fill a Dustbin with Oil and throw in the whole Turkey, Health eating Mississippi Style lol mind you they do taste good.

We did that one year on a home-made smoker (one of those repurposed food grade drums) - tasty indeed but blimey was that a 'heart attack on a plate'!

I totally agree. Much easier and better to have home made 'ready meals' in the freezer

Hi I’ve just scanned the barcode as I do from my change for life app on my phone and it says it’s 2.8 sugar cubes per 100g the traffic light system says sugar medium. Sat fat low. Salt low. So I would normally allow myself one. It’s not great for diabetics but ok for a treat,
