I had a stent 1 week ago and am taking Aspirin and Clopidrogrel. 5 days ago I started to scratch ( lower back) since Sunday ( day 7) I have a very red, very itchy rash ( back, front, chest, head, even feet)GP says I should contact hospital cardio, hospital consultant said I should talk to GP and take antihistamines. Piriton not very effective. I am beginning to feel distressed. Am afraid to take Clopidrogrel and afraid not to take it.
Seems this is an allergy but no one seems interested. Not sure what to do

I’m sorry! My husband has been on Clop for 15 years or so and although he has a delicate skin, he does not have your prob. I can’t see that a cardiologist would want to help you, they would surely not have the expertise.
Please please don’t stop the Clop (see, it rhymes!) without medical advice. It could be that the skin issue is cause by something else. Get yourself referred to a dermo.
I take clopidogrel but haven’t really had a skin reaction.
If doesn’t settle down albeit it has been about a week so far, then hopefully they can find an alternative for you but as per Happyrosie definiitely don’t stop unless instructed.
I feel the same with clopidogrel- fear of not taking it.
piriton is not the most effective antihistamine. Try loratidine or fexofenadine instead. Plus Eurax or E45 Itch cream. Otherwise discuss change to ticagrelor from clopidogrel if the side effects are too much. Sometimes these rashes can diminish over time but not acceptable if doesn’t.
Sometimes you have to try out different antihistamines as they can vary in effect in different people And sometimes double the dose although that’s off license use but I know they do dosages like that at the allergy clinics. Sometimes loratidine three times a day apparently
I was clopidogrel when l first had stents in, my side effect was swollenLips so much so l couldn't speak properly. My cardiologist immediately changed me to Ticagrelor. No probs since
yer I had a issue with clopidogrel cardiologist switched me to tricagrelor as he was not sure if it was the aspirin or clop causing me to react to it I was told by the cardiologist I don’t need to take aspirin with the tric and it seems to sort out my issue
I hope the itchiness is becoming less and settling down. I've been on clopidogrel about 20yrs and no ill effect apart from appearance of little veins now n then but I no longer get it. I take that and aspirin together now since my nstemi 5 months ago.
