suffer from MVA.. noticed over the last couple of weeks it seems to be bothering me a bit more. lying in bed last week i suddenly had noticeable discomfort in chest, front of my neck and left arm ...to get home i have to walk up a steep hill or up 41 steps.. yesterday i had to stop 3 times climbing the steps.. had chest tightness but also had a pain top half of left arm.. if i rest for a few mins pain goes away.. just don’t know if i should continue as i am.. whch means resting to let pain pass, taking gtn spray or see GP and tell her what’s going on

Hi Manhattan 1

I am sorry to hear your MVA is causing you more pain.

You need to seek medical advice if you are experiencing new or worsening symptoms especially pain at rest .

I suggest you ring 111 and if your GTN doesn't ease your angina pain then call an ambulance.

It is much colder now and my vasospastic angina is giving me more grief too. I do go to hospital whenever my angina is worse, lasts longer, and I get pain waking me frequently at night.

This is what my Cardiologist and GP have told me to do.

I hope you feel better soon.

thanks for your advice... the reason i had doubts about seeing GP is that currently the pain subsides when i rest for a few mins.. but the pain in bed last week gave me a bit of a fright.. especially because it happened when we were in Sorrento on holiday.. i was putting clean sheets on bed this afternoon and had to stop for a few mins because of discomfort and breathlessness.. reason i haven’t bothered the people at 111 is because they’d prob advise to take gtn .. feel as though i’d be wasting their time

Please don't ever feel you are wasting people's time.

Angina Pain at rest is something you do need to seek medical advice about.

I don't like going to A&E either. Last trip was in August.

You say the reason you dont call 111 is because they will advise taking GTN. Does that mean you don't take it when you have those symptoms ?

I would urge you to get it checked out. Although you have a diagnosis of MVA there is a possibility that there may be stenosis in the larger arteries. Have you had angiogram? Trust me paramedics and A&E staff prefer seeing you with angina than a full blown heart attack.

had an angiogram about 15 years ago that was clear.. but Cardiologist said last year.. an angiogram is just a telephone call away

15 years is a long time and things change. Make that call. The angiogram may be clear but if not treatment decisions can be made...

Please make that call that HappyJo, Michael and I are asking you to do.

You need to seek medical advice asap. I had a similar situation 3 weeks ago same thing I have MVA as well as stents and was getting chest pain more frequently and at rest went to see my GP who sent me to hospital had a night in A &E and an angiogram done which was clear but was diagnosed with artery spasm and started on amlidopine as well as my usual nitrates beta blocker and asprin.

3 weeks later and I am improving. If you haven't had an angiograms for 15 years then I think you probably need one to check your arteries if it's okay then maybe you need further meds to treat your symptoms. Take care.

Hi Sunshinebrew

Glad to hear your Microvascular and vasospastic angina has been recognised and you are improving.

I also have spasms in my microvessels and coronary arteries, coronary vasospastic angina. I like many others with vasospasms can't tolerate beta blockers.

I ended up in CCU for 5 days when my well meaning Cardiologist prescribed beta blockers for me and I had more chest pain.

This is the first time the doctors have mentioned an artery spasm as well as the MVA so I am hoping the new tablet amlodipine will help and I am starting to feel better no significant chest pain for the last 2 days, and 3 weeks ago I was in pain every day in the morning and at rest I was very breathless and exhausted couldn't do anything much. I think I need the beta blockers too they have been changed a few times ive been on nebivolol for over 2 years though so don't think they caused the spasm.
