I’m new here. Worried about Mum. LVSD

Hello all,

My Mum has today been told that she has left ventricular systolic dysfunction. She is being referred to cardiology after an echo showed the LVSD.

I’m just quite worried, as I did the wrong thing, looked up on Google and was met with some bleak news, but I had no idea what it was.

I have since found pumping marvellous which I found to be a great resource and comfort. I guess I am just worried, and eager to get an understanding of what it is (too scared to Google anymore) and how it may impact her life.

She is 65, doesn’t smoke, doesn’t drink, relatively fit, not overweight... just a shock that this has happened. She has not had any swelling of ankles/stomach and only gets breathless on exertion (hills) and only a couple of times outside of that.

If anyone has any experience of LVSD in particular or just any comforting words/experiences I’d be really grateful.

Thanks

Hi, sorry to hear about your mum, it is a mine field with the info. I also have LVSD, confirmed about 5 to 6 years ago. it is hard to find out how it will affect you long term but you will need to keep an eye on your mum as it may involve other heart problems, I had to have a pacemaker due to complete heart block which was not a problem but you need to keep on top of the medical people, I'm 53 and still working getting good times and bad. It seems like your mum is at the better end of the scale and hopefully she will have a good many years ahead of her yet. good luck to both of you.

Hello, my mum was told she has LVSD too, but some time ago. I couldn’t find information about causes, what it means etc so I phoned the BHF nurse helpline. They were really helpful in explaining it, including what questions to ask and next steps. Their number is 0300 330 3311, weekdays 9am to 5pm.

Hello Peachicecream, I have just found your post about your Mum who was diagnosed with LVSD. Reading what you put about your Mum was like reading about myself,i have not long been diagnosed. Couldn't believe it and still can't. I am 58.I am interested to find out how your Mam is doing now 3 years on. I hope she's doing just fine. Has medication helped? Has she found the cause of it. Thanks in advance, Vonniee
