Hi

I’ve just had a stent fitted after a minor heart attack. Was wondering if anyone was having any side effects from medication given? I was hoping to feel better than I do. Indigestion type feelings

Welcome sasquot1. Yes my meds give me indigestion. I’m prescribed Esomeprazole daily to counteract. Although I feel a lot better since cutting sugar and chocolate out of my diet.

I’ve been prescribed medication to help my tummy but still hasn’t helped. Starting to think it’s all in my head. Been a shock and don’t know whether I’m expecting too much too soon x thanks for your reply

I expected too much too soon, had all sorts of side effects but was lucky that my GP listened and over 8 months lowered the doses. Go and talk to your GP - and don;t forget to write down everything you have notices as those 10 min appts don;t give you time to remeber everything if you haven;t got it in front of you. Good luck

That sounds like a good idea Thankyou for your advice. Just nice to hear from others as I’ve felt very alone

It;s shock, amazement that it's happened to you, and never feeling, what I can only describe as, safe. The whole world seems different and very scary. My self confidence arrived around my ankles and it took a long time to get back on an even keel..... do rehab, find someone to talk to and realise it takes quite a while to get to your new normal.

Maybe just take it easy and keep taking the tablets. If still not right then speak to GP. We’re all different so different things work for different people.

Hi sasquot1. It’s early days for you so don’t worry. I’m nearly 3 years on from a similar experience and feel great. What meds are you on? If something ending ‘prazole’ try taking it 30 mins before your breakfast and then take your Aspirin and Clopidogrel/Ticagrelor on a full stomach. They’re known to irritate your stomach. All the best.

Hi

I found after Angiogram I was burping a lot after eating or drinking but was told this was normal .

Spoke to others and was told thay had the same .

I was really wiped out when I came home but I do have several Autoimmune illnesses .

Hope you go on okay

I had 2 stents July 1 and have had significant problems with my stomach, acid reflux and chest burning. The statin was initially stopped and I was switched from soluble aspirin to enteric coated which helped a lot. I eventually saw a GI consultant at 6 weeks post op who felt the combination of aspirin and Ticagrelor was the culprit as both can cause gut irritation, plus I am helicobacter positive which normally causes me no problem but he was concerned about the risk of stomach ulcer so was started on Ranatadine 300mg 2xday which I will continue until the Ticagrelor is discontinued. Things have improved a lot and the burning has stopped but my gut is still a bit dodgy especially after the meds. 🤢

I had a similar problem with my meds. It took 6 months for me to get the med mix and dosage sorted to alleviate angina and gastritis which is a common side effect. Write down symptoms and questions before seeing gp or cardiologist and write down answers as has already been suggested. It is also worth while remembering the BHF nurses who you can talk to. So I got it sorted May. Back at the gym. Fit as a flea and off to Italy on Monday. Don’t give in to despondency. Good luck.

Hi there, I had a stent fitted in March and have struggled since with tiredness which, as a normally active bloke I found very frustrating and at times depressing. Ironically last Wednesday I booked an appointment with the doctors on Friday to discuss my meds then woke Thursday feeling slightly better then on Friday I felt, for the first time since my heart attack, almost like my old self. The doctor said that whilst understandably I was frustrated, don't minimise the damage even a minor heart attack. He also said to expect an occasional dip but believe I'm getting better. Re your indigestion, I assume you're on omeprazol? In which case as mentioned earlier, take it at least half an hour before your other meds and have those after you've eaten. Good luck.

Hi you should have got a stomach protection tablet with your standard package of meds, Ompramazole or Lanzaporole taken first thing and wait at least 30 mins before having anything else. Using these types of tablets along with coated aspirin were the cure for me. It's not an instant cure but it comes in a few days

Talk to your doc

After mild HA and stents I had a full year of dreadful problems from tablets. Ticagrelor was the main culprit for the stomach pain and asthma like feelings despite taking ranitidine but almost all of the others caused unbearable problems. I had hallucinations, sapped energy, BP dropped far too low, one tablet caused ventricular tachycardia . Finally after a year, almost everything has been changed or stopped and I finally feel normal. All tablets have different effects on different people. See your GP.

Thankyou. I think a visit to go might be needed

I’ve been battling indigestion and gas for two years now . It’s better since I’ve reduced atorvastatin from 40mg to 20 mg. along with changing aspirin to non dispersible. A vigorous work out seems to be the best way to sort out medication side effects.

All the best .
