Hello welcome

Sorry you have found yourself having to join our merry band of Hearties!

It’s not surprising you are feeling delicate, but as you know from your first heart attack things do improve.

I haven’t had stents had Aortic valve and bypass done.

Others will be along to welcome you,

Hope your recovery goes really well

Best wishes Pauline

I live in Scotland, so understand what you are saying. Though have got a hospital 5 minutes away! Very grateful it’s on the door step!😂

Congratulations on quitting smoking. It's never easy but you got the job done. That initiative alone may well have got you these past 24 trouble free years, as well as sparing you many other medical problems.

When I was in hospital recovering from a bypass operation there was a guy on the same cardiac ward who was trying heroically to get up and start walking. I was full of admiration for his grit and resolve...until I discovered his motivation was to get outside for a cigarette!

Hi 70blackhole, there are some similarities in our experiences. I had bypass surgery as a result of an attack in 1996, aged 42. Gave up smoking, one ciggy after being told l had a problem! I’ve kept off the ciggies and, fingers crossed, l’ve had no recurrences so far. I do a bit of exercise, keep an eye on the diet, and do everything in moderation, including moderation!

I’m sorry to hear you’ve had a set back, my only advice is keep positive, and probably keep doing what you’ve been doing for the last 24 years. It seems to have worked pretty well so far. God bless.

Some great walking in Wales, along with fresh local food. It's very green but get a good waterproof jacket and enjoy the weather.

Well done. Stents help a lot physically but mentally you will have been knocked for 6. Remain positive and listen to the rehab people. Enrol in their activities if you can.

I was stented 6 years ago after a heart attack. A valve was damaged in the attack and deteriorated after a bout of flu so had to be repaired and then replaced after a botched first attempt. Suffice it to say that 3 years after my last major op I am feeling 80pct recovered. The 20pct just reminds me to be careful, take as much moderate exercise as I can and appreciate the life I have.

Flu vaccinations and any other preventative precautions become more important, especially in these times. But life must go on, so finding a balance to maintain a good quality of life whilst being cautious is important. In my experience overdoing the caution is better than pressing too hard and taking risks.

Many thanks for your reply I find it difficult to exercise as I am wheel bound.

Sorry to hear. I haven't really any experience of that. With lockdown, I was housebound for a long period. Hand weights were useful. If I looked like a plonker (and I probably did) then at least I was on my own. Life is tough sometimes. I am still more or less shielding, but by choice.

I would recommend that you inquire after rehab groups after your next stent. In my experience, in this area (London) at least, they arrange to pick up the less mobile members

Hope you go on ok .

I had one stent in in April this year .

Now feeling fitter than I ever did .

Think having a HA has somehow made me feel stronger in my outlook of life and I’m sure you will get there .

Little steps you are a survivor !!!

Take care ,

Good luck with your house move if sounds a beautiful place .X
