Hey guys .

My brother has recently had a cardiac arrest and I'm just trying to understand the aftercare.

He's 9 days in and as woken today but understandably very confused

We're waiting on an MRI at the moment.

He was down for around 30 minuites with no oxygen .

Thank you

Scott

Given my own experience with my dad’s arrest THE mind is very good at adapting WELL in short term.

About 5 years into dad’s recovery IT started to effect memory

Needless to say everyone is different I surspect my dad had poor vascular health.

Anyway sorry to read about your brother AND hope makes timely recovery

Hi ScottGray

Welcome to the forum.

I am so sorry to hear about your brother's cardiac arrest. It must have been such a shock to all of you who are close to him .

I suggest you ask to speak to the staff looking after your brother however there maybe issues of confidentiality and it is usually a person's partner who the medical and nursing team talk to.

Another good source of support is the BHF helpline where you can speak to one of the Cardiac nurses.

There is also a support group

My brother in law had an out of hospital Cardiac arrest a couple of years ago. Luckily a passerby knew how to perform CPR.

It took time but he has recovered and returned to work. Life is different for us all. The emotional roller coaster was intense for us all as a family.

I wish your brother a speedy recovery.

Hi I'm just coming up to 1 year since my cardiac arrest and it does take time for everyone to adjust. I was in intensive care for 2 weeks and completely out of it. When I came round I couldn't speak or write and had dreadful hallucinations . You just have to take one step at a time. Good luck

I think all you can do is wait and nobody , including the doctors , can say what he will be like until he is up and about.

I have also had cardiac arrests.

I hope all turns out ok . All the best

Hey guys cheers for all your replies .

He's awake and looking well in himself.

Still waiting on an MRI .

He's still made any movement or spoken at all.

The doctors have said they may perform a tracheostomy after the MRI which is booked for 2pm Tommorow .

Really appreciate you all taking your time to reply.

It's greatly appreciated

And well done to you guys who have managed to battle your way through it.

Thank you .
