Hi can anyone tell me if they have had excessive sweating after a H.A. 18 months ago, also getting bad pains in both arms /hands.Doctor took me off statins a week ago ,no effect so far.Could it be from another of the usual cocktail of drugs given to heart patents ,or from the condition,I am well past the menopause, so not that. Thanks
sweating?: Hi can anyone tell me if... - British Heart Fou...
sweating?
If you think it is due to your drugs you could read the leaflets and/or discuss it with your doctor and/or call the BHF Heart Helpline on 0300 330 3311 (office hours) and talk to a cardiac nurse about it.
I have sweat excessively since I started with heart disease 30 years ago but it could be just me, being a sweaty bugger.
I don't sweat! At grammar school gentlemen were taught to perspire and ladies to glow radiantly! 😁
Thanks I have read leaflets and am at present cutting out the statins for 2 weeks under doctors orders, then on to the next pill ect ect.I dont think people who haven't had this problem really know how debilitating it can be.
sorry junik. in way was i being flippant or demeaning your problem. just couldn’t resist a comment. i hope you get some answers sorry
Joking apart I used to cope with high temperatures (up to 45C) pretty well. Once I developed angina I became more limited on how much I could do and started perspiring more. Just prior to my bypass in June '18 I perspired more but with increasingly severe angina I put it down to the pain and related stress. The heatwave hit just after my bypass and I struggled in the heat. When I started rehab exercise like using an exercise bike resulted in a soaked shirt. This has stayed the same (without exercise last week) but no idea whether it is heart related, the drug cocktail or ageing. No other symptoms. I think you need to see your GP about aches and pains!
Became heat intolerant 18 months ago with excessive sweating, mainly at night, but it can`t be the medication as I`ve been on the same for years.Gp and cardiologist just dismissed it so I guess it`s old age and a slight deterioration in my heart condition.Hope you sort it.
I have periods of sweating in the early hours. Also a funny tingling in my lower back area. Then it goes away for a time.
The problem is that sweating can be caused by so many things. I haven't yet managed to pin down what's causing it. I mentioned it to my cardiac consultant and he thought menopausal symptoms. Like you I'm well passed the menopause but it seems you can still get symptoms for a long time afterwards. The GP confirmed this is the case but it's very rare. Something tells me it's not that.
The GP thought it might be a side effect of the isosorbide mononitrate I take daily. this mentions flushing as a side effect. I do sometimes get a bit flushed during the day but the sweating seems different somehow.
Other things I've tried to pursue are eating. I thought it might be low blood sugar during the night, particularly as I have my supper quite early - around 6pm. So I started to have a snack around 8.30 - 9pm but that didn't make any difference.
I'm left with it being part of the condition. But that's a bit bewildering as well because my ischaemic response from my microvascular angina only comes into play when I exert myself.
Another of my pet theories is that it's a response to withdrawal of the isosorbide mononitrate. The sweating happens during the early hours when the effect of the iso is beginning to wear off. Could the sweating be a response to my blood vessels beginning to constrict?
I'll let you know if I get any definitive answers.
Thanks for your comprehensive reply,I dont take Isosorbide mononitrate that you take so thats one off the list,I found that interesting about the food as I know that when I have more sugar than I should my temperature goes right up ,so have been trying to keep that in check.
I really don't think you should take chances. If your GP surgery is like mine and so many others, we are lucky to have the cardiac nurses available on the BHF helpline. I have problems sweating for years and it gets worse as I get older but I also have serious pain problems as well as heart condition so I just put it down to that combination ..
I wish you well, but seek advice is the best thing to do for peace of mind.
I wake in the night with face and neck dripping and pillow soaked I'm now only on a stating, aspirin and furosemide with omeprazole. I had bouts of it before the HA so I don't blame t he tablets. I'm 30 years post menopause. It makes me feel totally washed out
Yes me too,I went for years in my 50s seating my days out at work, thought it was behind me.
Thank you so much everyone for your reply's,keep the jokes coming as if you didnt laugh you would cry ,so all good.I am at present undergoing tests at doctors and consultants ,but just looking for clues really as to what I can do about it,I dont believe in just sitting back and letting it all happen to me,I find the community on here really helpful and reassuring
Hello,
I am sweating excessively too. I think mine could be complicated by my under active thyroid. Lately I am sweating a lot more, since my heart attack I have also been induced in to early menopause. I think it could be all three for me, it’s irritating and I get embarrassed.
I am intrigued to see , what you come across in your replies.
Do you put on weight with an under active thyroid or do you loose it?I have put on weight and wondered if it could be my thyroid.
sorry that question is for Katydl
Just a quick reply .I had sweating for about two months there .discovered my haemoglobin was low and iron stores low .I went to chemist ,bought flouridix liquid .worked a dream .its a tonic with loads vitamins and iron .no sweats since finishing bottle.may help
Yes and I find it debilitating! I’m 47 had hysterectomy 9 years ago so Dr is putting it down to menopause kicked off by HA. I can’t tolerate the heat any more either, I am totally exhausted! I think some of the medications are making the swearing worse too.
