My husband has HF & he definately doesn't have a husky voice, sadly!! He does have to cough & clear his throat quite often though. Have you had any throat problems recently? Maybe the meds? People react differently to them. How long has it been like this & how husky is it? Could it be the hot weather/pollen etc. Sorry, that really sounds a bit like an interogation!!

Ummm I wonder if there is some sort of a link. I am a singer and had AVR in March. Since getting back to singing my vocal coach tells me my voice is now half a octave lower than it was pre-op. As a mezzo soprano it makes life a tad challenging! I realise having a tube down my throat for six hours didn’t do my vocal chords a great deal of good but just wondering if there is some sort of link. However on the plus side a husky voice is so much more interesting 😄.

Hi Modeller.

My husband had a very husky voice following his heart operation. The consultant said that the tubes 'rammed down his throat' during surgery caused the problem. It resolved after 8 weeks. Honey certainly helped.

Good luck xxx

I was intubated when I was admitted to hospital with a heart attack last December and I had a husky voice for about 4 weeks, it gradually faded from sounding like Rod Stewart back to my normal voice, shame I quite liked that voice 😢

I have a husky voice all the time nearly 3 yrs on from HF diagnosis. Drives my husband mad as he says he can hardly hear me. I do have a sore throat a lot of the time though!

Have you had your throat looked at by a specialist?

No. Mentioned it to GP who told me to gargle etc. Am seeing both HF consultants at WPH and Harefield so will discuss with the latter.

I have not heard of voice issues related to heart failure but voice problems are not uncommon post OHS. The musician Linsey Buckingham lost his voice after surgery this February and the current status is a mystery. Cigarettes and whiskey can also cause a husky voice!

Well I don’t drink whisky and I’ve never smoked apart from trying it out as a teenager!

Would be interested to know what the consultants think. And quite right bout not drinking whisky, horrible stuff!! Can't beat a gin!
