Hi can anyone offer their advice. I was recently sent to cardiologist for ECG with suspected Angina. Caused by exertion. They have referred me for a Echo n a MPS. In meantime said take a beta blocker, an asprin n a statin. Talked to doc n he has given me 2.5mg of Bisoprolol. I'm on day 4, felt lousy since day one and today had face numbness and felt shocking..has anyone else this experience on this drug and should I stop taking it?

Hi, Don't stop taking the Bisoprolol but do speak to your doctor. You are on a low dose and it maybe the statin that is causing your problems. Either way give it a few days to let the meds settle down. Better to feel uncomfortable for a few days than have angina attacks. I hope in time you can manage your agina with meds. Best wishes

Don’t stop but alert your gp to a bad response and explore a lower dose or an alternative.

Hi Misssml. I felt dreadful when I went on a similar set of drugs following my Heart attack 2 years ago. The Bisoprolol is designed to lower your heart beat and reduce blood pressure to prevent further Angina or a heart attack. Doses range from 1.25mg to 10 so you’re not on the lowest dose but they do try to up titrate so that you’re on the highest dosage you can tolerate. Definitely go back to the Docs before doing anything. S/he will probably suggest you stick with it as it usually gets better (it did for me). Or S/he might suggest you take it in the evening until you get used to it or reduce dosage (but the higher the better with this medication). Good luck.

Hi Misssml,

I had a similar experience. Went to the hospital with a chest pain and they put me on 2.5mg Bisoprolol straight away. After two tablets, I felt absolutely awful. No energy, felt like death etc. Went to the docs on the Monday and he reduced the dose to 1.25. This cleared up all the side effects. Since my op the consultant has upped it to 2.5 but as 1.25 morning and night. Again no side effects so am a happy bunny 5 weeks after my 3x CABG.

I had the same after an angina attack and my cardiologist suggested taking it at night instead of morning and that did help me feel a bit better however stick with it and it may settle as it did take time for me too. May be a combination of the statins plus the beta blocker which cause this - this is a standard treatment on symptoms and will be adjusted as they discover whats going on. I was taken off it after my angiogram but for 5 weeks felt like I was trudging through porridge - hope it eases for you too.
