Just like to ask whether anyone has experienced rectal bleeding whilst on Verapamil.

Verapamil is a CCI (calcium channel inhibitor) and mainly used for blood pressure treatment although it can be prescribed for other reasons. Rectal bleeding is not a reported side effect. However, it can cause constipation - straining because of this may cause issues. You should really speak to your GP.

If you are taking this drug it means you have coronary artery disease and are likely above your optimal weight, as elevated blood pressure is a symptom of these conditions.

I had triple bypass surgery 4 years ago, followed by angioplasty surgery having 4 stents inserted.

I was sent home post-op with a cocktail of pills and told to walk daily.

I felt awful for months and could not sleep. I developed severe anxiety. I then began doing research about coronary artery disease and the drugs I was on.

I made the decision to deal with my health naturally, so I made a radical change to my diet and lifestyle.

I lost 40 lbs within 10 months, and gradually stopped taking all the drugs I was given. I even stopped the baby aspirin recently.

I am now in the best shape of my life and in better shape than most people half my age.

If you haven't already done so, you should modify your diet and lifestyle to address your CAD. The Mediterranean Diet is considered the best diet for health. You should also walk daily for at least 30 minutes and ideally up to 60 minutes, if you are able to.

If you have not had bypass surgery then the best way to avoid it is to make these dietary and lifestyle changes immediately.

Avoid all sugars, simple carbohydrates and processed foods.

Increase your intake of legumes, vegetables, fruits, avocado, nuts and seeds, and have cold-water fish such as salmon, 2-3 days per week.

Many thanks for your comprehensive reply sos007. I take Verapamil for rate control and adhere to the kind of healthy eating that you recommend. My BP has always been in the low normal(100/58) and BMI of 21.

No other side effects and no weight gain . The bleeding has stopped now.

Ok thanks so much for your replies I currently take diltiazem but I still have breakthroughs so they want to try verapamil but i get anxious starting new tablets. Thanks again
