Southampton Spire Patients Forum

Thought i'd write a quick note about my day out yesterday down at Spire Southampton.

In the months following op's they run a patients forum at the hospital where a cross representation of ex patients can return to discuss their various surgeries/experiences with members of staff and voice their thoughts and feelings on the service they received.

Well what a nice experience that was and I'm so glad I did it ! Sat around a table with 8 other patients, some cardiac, others knee op, and some back problems. Some were fully private, some NHS and some self funded on referral so a mixed bunch plus 5 members of staff. It wasn't all plain sailing for some, and it was really interesting to listen to others experiences, but it was very light hearted and a bit of a laugh ! I got caught out as they soon cottoned on I remembered all the female members of staff names I'd seen in hospital but not the blokes, much mickey taking of yours truly !! But hey it's a gift I tell you ! All in all it was well worth doing. If anyone out gets a chance to do something similar in the months following your op at the hospital you attended I'd recommend doing it and giving a little back as it were.

Hi Clive. That sounds a great idea rather than just getting feedback from a questionnaire. The Freeman Hospital here in Newcastle do something similar but for patients who are participating in research to discuss their experiences as well as to give results and get ideas about new research. As to the remembering of names. Is that called selective memory a bit like selective hearing...?!! 😂 zena x

After leaving hospital I had a questionnaire, the critical thing was ticking the box saying I was open to further communication which is how I think the invite to get involved originated.

As for the names thing.......Guilty as charged m'lud, but in my defence I can say......well nothing except..... I'm a bloke !! LOL !!

Fingers crossed they will act upon the feedback. About fifteen years ago I was invited to one about improving diabetes care. About 20 of us spent about three hours (tea and sandwiches provided) discussing the issues, copious notes were made and we were thanked for our feedback. To my knowledge not a single change was ever made! :(
