Hi my dad has recently had a heart attack, had a stent fitted, been diagnosed with af and hf. He's been an active chap all of his life and I hate to see him just sitting and looking down. Can anyone suggest any activities or exercises he can do to keep busy? Many thanks x

Hello and welcome to the forum! Has he been offered cardiac rehab - the staff there can offer guidance on activity which nobody here can really do without detailed clinical knowledge. You could try menssheds.org.uk which might spur new interests with similar people to himself. Good luck!

Hi Michael, yes he has, it's still early days. I've actually just spoken to his cardiac nurse who advised no exercise, just walking. He starts his physio in 2 weeks for 2 sessions for 6 weeks, so he'll be advised then. Thanks for you help its much appreciates and for the website suggestion, I'll definitely have a look 👍

He could give Shibashi a try. You don't have to go out, it's very gentle and easy to learn. It takes about 20 minutes. Just follow the video: youtube.com/watch?reload=9&... "Trust Me I'm A Doctor" found that it gave a good workout without strain or pain. My tutor says it can be done every day. I play it on YouTube via Google on my PC and "cast" it to the TV in the lounge to follow it.

I haven’t got hf but I have all the rest. He should have been invited to the cardio class where they help you to get back to normality. The exercises are very good it’s a 12 week course. I really benefitted this class and after the cardio programme finishes there is a follow on course which is a wellness course and that is really good (not sure if it’s in your area) but that was really good as well. I t takes time to get over a heart attack the shock of having one alone but then told you have af is a bigger shock. What they do recommend is doing exercise if 180 mins per week. I came out of hospital with a heart book which took you through week by week then onto light exercise. I know a fEw people who weren’t given this health book. Ask bhf they will know where to get a hold of it.
