Hi hoping someone can share advice I have had 2 stents fitted one 18 months ago due to 90% blockage 9 months later had another next to the first as 1 wasn’t enough ant they thought medication would have been enough 9 months later I had another stent as artery was 98% blocked have been ok till recently I have always been active and trained 4x weekly but lately when I start any exercise I get pain in chest and shoulders when I take GTN spray pain goes and I can carry on exercising ? I spoke to GP who requested an urgent Cardiologist App I got a phone call from cardiologist eventually last week who said just carry on with spray and will see you as soon as we can - surely i shouldn’t need to use spray like this I’m worried another blockage and when I am going to get seen ? Has this happened to anyone else - thanks in advance for any information on your experience on this 😀

HelloSo I had similar but I went back to my cardiac rehab nurse and they advised me to ask for isosorbide mononitrate it's the same as the spray but a slow release tablet. Works great for me

Hope this helps

Thank you I have read about this tablet I will bring this up with them 👍x

Dear Tilly62.

First off, congratulations on keeping up your fitness level, it will help you get through the next stage of your journey.

The pain is just that a pain. It reminds us now and then how poorly we have been/still are.

As Darren stated in his reply to you, have a word with your team about going onto, isosorbide mononitrate .

I found this a lot better drug in managing my pain, which I also got when exercising/ walking up hill etc, and not having to take the GTN spray so often.

I hope it all gets sorted for you soon, in the mean time keep up the fantastic work , just maybe take it a little easier.

You are in my thoughts

Thanks for reply I am going to see about this tablet it’s with a try 👍x

It is posts like this that frighten the life out of me and you have my greatest sympathy. I am struggling a little bit to understand why you had a 98% blockage just 9 months after the initial diagnosis though? Have they suggested how this could be the case as it would seem that maybe another artery is beginning to block. The reality could be that they are just hoping that medication will fix your problem short term, I think in your case I would be thinking of maybe getting a second opinion or going private if they can't provide an explanation as to why you are getting these rapid blockages? Your GP obviously thinks similar from what you have said.

The 2nd blockage was because when they fitted the first stent there was a narrowing left on the artery and I wasn’t told about this at the time so I was really shocked when I was told I had another blockage I think the artery Kinked like a hose pipe would if that makes sense I was annoyed at the time that I wasn’t told there was a narrowing left both happened during lockdowns so was hard to get all the information was rushed in then rushed out - I am waiting on cardiologist sending me an appointment fingers crossed 🤞 it’s soon x

Sounds like you need an exact explanation of what state they are in and what they intend to do about it and why they didn't tell you about the remaining blockage. From local experience some hospitals are just so much more "on the ball" than others.

I know I have a list of questions for them when I get the appointment hopefully not much longer - thanks for replying x
