You need to tell your GP of this immediately. Have you been diagnosed with a heart condition?
This sounds like it could be sleep apnea, but I am not a doctor. Best thing to do is visit your GP.
Essentially sleep apnea is that you stop breathing when you're asleep, your brain forces you to wake up so you start to breath- sometimes without you really being aware of it. It can lead to heart problems and stroke if untreated, so it can be a serious condition. One of the most common symptoms is snoring, and you might also find you're tired during the day and may wake up with headaches. Like I said, I'm not a doctor, I just know this because I have it.
Sleep apnea is definitely linked to AF. Episodes are often triggered when the oxygen levels drop and the carbon dioxide levels increase. Ask your GP for a sleep study.
