AMINES

I am new to this site. I am treatment resistant to hypertensive drugs twice ending up in hospital and other significant problems. I have had my kidneys scanned and urine tests. Now the suggestion is reduced intake of AMINES. Plus zero alcohol. Plus CBT. Has anyone experience of this regime?

Hello Pgw48

I could have written your first sentence as it mirrors my experience of being resistant to hypertensive medication. so I truly empathise and sympathise with you. In fact I am amazed to come across a like soul as both my GP and my renal consultant have stated on different occasions that they “don’t have anyone else like this” so it’s somewhat comforting to find that I’m not alone! I actually seem to get all of the downsides of the medication I take but none of the benefits.

I am intrigued to know what has led to the suggestion of the treatment regime to which you refer? For instance, did the kidney scans or urine tests reveal a problem which led your medics to recommend this regime as a possible remedy?

I do hope you will get some helpful replies and wish you all the best.

I was the same. My doctor is amazed at the number of side effects I have had from every medication they tried on me. I am down to 1 medication now (Clopidogrel) because it gives me no side effects and I got my BP and cholesterol down with diet and exercise.

That sounds like a success story, Jimmy - well done! Our son has been on Clopidogrel for the last 7 years since having a stroke which left him unable to meet DVLA guidelines for future driving. Terrible shock to him and us especially as he was into exercise and they could find no cause. I also have a friend on Clopidogrel following a small stroke. Hope it keeps you all safe and well for very many years.

Can he do exercise now?

He gave up both league football and the gym but not so much by design, more due to the fact that he met someone, got married, moved and had two little ones all in the space of three years. He continued at a new tennis club for a few months but all the aforementioned and work got in the way. He has, however, just very recently, taken up ice hockey....Mum is not wishing to be a spectator any time soon!🏑🤭

How about you?

I go for a walk every day and go to a Shibashi class. I was going to suggest this for your son if he couldn't do vigorous exercise but, obviously, he can.

The daily walking has been recommended to me. Used to be a great fan of that but now with a heart condition the beta blocker I’ve been put on slows me down somewhat but I’m persevering in the hope of getting on top of it. It sounds as though you are doing well. Shibashi is a new one on me - anything like Tai Chi which I have dabbled in?

Yes, they have taken the basic moves of Tai Chi and set them in an 18 movement exercise programme. Very gentle and easy to learn.

I am doing this while I get my Tai Chi 24 step form back together. Trying to find a good class for it. I did it for over 20 years then got too busy. My body can't remember a few bits of it.

Ooh, I like the sound of that, Jimmy. Many thanks for the link - I will have a look at it tomorrow.

Thanks for feed back. Worth looking at pdfs.semanticscholar.org/33... which my consultant says I should use to inform me. He thinks because of my high pressured work life before I retired, then CBT and maybe a small dose anti anxiety drug could do the trick.
