Still waiting on echocardiogram and 24hr ecg result

I had an echo and 24hr holter monitor done 4/5 weeks ago they were requested by a&e doctor, can I assume they came back normal and will hear nothing back or will I eventually get results either way?

I'm having both done on Friday. I asked my doc how long the results would take to come through and he said the hospital would call the same day if there was anything wrong with my echocardiogram, otherwise it could be 3-4 weeks if normal. He said the same for the ECG. So hopefully your results were good Good luck!

Well I had my echocardiogram this morning and was told my dc should have the results within a week (he told me 3-4 weeks!)

For my experience, you only hear from the if something is wrong.

It sounds that it is all in order but give your gp a call as if anything is wrong , he should be informed

It would be better to know either way at least you don't feel the pressure and the anxiety of waiting.

I had in September a stress eco and the cardiologist already met with surgeon to discuss my surgery and I only found out when I received the letter from surgeon inviting me to see him to week after to go through the possible options .

But whenever I had holder monitor or ecg in the past I never heard anything from them unless something was wrong.

I am positive this is the case for you too 😉

You should hear back either way. I had to wait 3 weeks for the results of my first echo and it turned out I was in severe heart failure and had unstable angina, yet I still had to wait for the results. I think a lot depends on how busy the cardiologist is and also with which health authority you are with. If you are at all concerned speak to you GP and ask him/her to chase the results. Good luck.

Unbelievable! How could they make you wait all that time when you had heart failure! That is terrible - what if you had got worse whilst waiting for your results!

Even worse, TcupT, was once I saw the cardiologist for the results he just put me on some medication, told me I may need a pacemaker and referred me to the nurse-led heart clinic which was so busy, it took another 6 weeks before I was seen.

waiting for a diagnosis....I am feeling awful at the mo so wish they would hurry up so I can start treatment. I am suffering from severe fatigue (sleeping 10 hours a night and 2 hours during the day), very low heart rate (in 40s during rest), cannot walk up the stairs or along the road without getting breathless and my legs hurting. I have a garmin that measures my pulse and oxygen and my oxygen levels drop to 80% when I am walking, going up the stairs and throughout the night. I don't know whether it is my heart or lungs causing these problems so I am getting them both looked at. It is just frustrating waiting for tests and then results!

Just had my chest x. Ray and comes back with asthma, COPD, and emphsemia. Got to see the asthma nurse at the end of the month. All this started with a Tia last March. No I've never smoked. Hope the puffers open up at ways for me.

Varies from hospital to hospital. Usually an ECG can be looked at and any issues found within minutes.

Echocardiogram in my case each time I had one and I had lots!!

Also a transoesphageal echocardiogram TOE within 2 weeks I was called in to see Consultant to discuss results.

Other hospitals may take longer.

I had OHS FEB 2018 Because of severe heart issue. Even though I had no symptoms and normally fit and healthy! 😮

Barney, When I was having blackouts last summer I had both cardio and neurological tests: ECG, EEG, MRI etc. I was diagnosed with bradycardia and fitted with a pacemaker. My neurological EEG remained a loose end. I was tempted to leave it there, assuming that I had been diagnosed with a heart problem and that was that. I continued to follow up the results of the EEG however and, several months later, after a lot of effort, discovered that my results were “suspicious”. I await next steps. I don’t know what would have happened had I not been so persistent. My advice to you, therefore, is to chase down the results of each and every test.

I echo what Stanley18 says. Communication and test results are often a problem in areas of the NHS. After much chasing I have more than once been told by GP receptionist my result was 'ok' to later find out it had gone astray. Ask for the result and to see a copy if you have any doubts.

Definitely chase up the results. Communication can fall through the cracks in the NHS - can take weeks to get my cardiology results.

I had an echo done on Monday, and the basic results were available to my HF nurse on Tuesday. (My MV regurgitation has gone from "moderate to severe" to "moderate" - woohoo!) Your GP will have access to the results, so you could speak to them, but if there were a major problem, a&e or your GP would have already been in touch. xx

I’m on week 6 of waiting for ECG and echo results and hospital can’t tell me who to speak to or how long til I will get results. I have just put in a subject access request for my records as I would like to find out either way. (I waited 4 weeks for a ecg recorder result from my GP which they then told he was normal after I called to check, I then did a subject access request to check and it turned out the recorder hadn’t got any data on it because the lady fitting it told me it was on continuous record and not to press anything when actually it was an event recorder and I should have been pressing a button when I got symptoms. So I’m afraid I have little faith in the system!)

I waited more than two months for results of an echo, holter ecg and kidney ultrasound.I only got any results when I contacted PALs and my GP still hasn't got the report from my holter only a photocopy of my brief letter.Now when I tell you that these tests were done in April/May you can see just how slow they are.

I had my echo last July and had results in November. Which was a shock after all that time as I thought I was clear. Turned out a bleeding heart valve, which they are going to keep an eye on .

My doctor has all my test results now and is going to call me in March a year after I had my TIA.
