Maybe I'm missing something, but I found this article pretty gloomy, opioids don't generally work for chronic pain, but the NHS hasn't the resource to offer much of anything else. My mother suffered from rheumatoid arthritis which meant she fell into the chronic pain category. I've read that she shared that distressing space with well over 2m other people in the UK. As the population ages I guess that's only going to increase and for the life of me I can't see too many easy, affordable answers.
