Chest strain after stents fitted

Hello, my husband had 2 stents fitted last Tuesday and we were wondering how normal it is to feel chest strain after the operation and if so how long will it take to ease?

It's very normal. I had 3 stents fitted three months ago and just today, while I was running my usual 5K run, I felt some chest strain. Decided not to worry and carried on. I tried to run it under 28m but couldn't. Next time.

Tell your husband, it'll get easier. He need to take it easy right now, go for a walk, build it up. His mind as well as body. Good luck.

That’s really good to know that it’s normal. I suppose no one tells you that you may feel some different sensations afterwards, there’s such an emphasis on the actual operation. Glad to hear you’re running and have an active life now, he’ll get there.

Hi I still feel chest strain / aches etc 2.5 yrs after 1 stent, but did have 25 mins CPR too. No one can give me reason why! However whilst it drives me crazy sometimes I have been stress tested & get on with all sorts from skiing, cycling & mountain walking so guess it’s ok.

For me it sometimes barely noticeable then I’ll go through period when it is and bugs me.

Hope your husband is well & gets back to a relatively normal Life soon.

Ok that’s really good to know thank you. Where do you get stress tested out of interest? He doesn’t deal with stress very well - is that what that relates to, or is that something else?

Hi a stress test is an ECG whilst doing something cardio eg treadmill. They have different settings of course. That’s the only real effective ECG. Some GPS and hospitals use that as test before and after stents. Mine wouldn’t so I had mine privately but then I was lucky as have private health care insurance from work.

Give it time. But he should speak to his GP try & push for answers.

Personally I don’t think the GPS and cardiologists have any clue as to why we feel these pains. It was even hinted to me they were psychological! I know doubt suspects anxiety makes it worse but still there must be a base cause.

Take care and make sure he looks after himself

Mine said, "it's not from the heart". How on earth could he know?

Quite frankly, you could have said, "oh really? you are treating me like a child" and see what he would say.

I had some chest pain when I walked. I was desperate to return to my prior activities and I was walking at 120 steps to the minute. The pain went when I dropped to 100 per minute.
