Well it's all gone smoothly so far, despite today running a fever and so feeling pretty rotten. They're actually talking about discharging me as early as Tuesday, which I'm really not feeling! But came back on the main ward yesterday (day two) which seemed pretty positive. Will update again in a while when feeling stronger Nic x

So here's how my AVR is going (so far) update
Hi Nic
That’s great news your ok
You do feel it’s too soon when they move you back to the normal ward and discharge when things go well is normally 5-7 days I was discharged after 6 days I did think it was too early but that’s what happens. It’s because there’s someone waiting in the wings for their AVR or bypass and they do have limited beds.
I’m sure you’ll be fine by Tuesday just do everything your told and ask lots of questions before you leave

Hi Nic25, it sounds par for the course so far. Did you need a transfusion? I needed one (blood not Guinness ) and they think it was the course of the slight fever I developed. Post valve/bypass surgery they often talk about discharge on day 5 but often it is a few days longer. I was actually discharged on day 8 as I developed an electrolyte imbalance). My main hints are eat what you can to help the body repair and walk about as and when you can - getting yourself a coffee or newspaper feels like a victory!
Fabulous news! One day at a time - but you made it!!!! Let us know how things are going when you feel up to it.
Well done!!

Hi Nic
You’ll be surprised how quickly you start feeling better now you’re back on the normal ward, by Tuesday you’ll be more than happy to get home and start your recovery properly, nothing like being on home turf to make you feel better.
Do forget we’re here to help if you need us.

Well done Nic! These next few days are pretty grim as you are not feeling well and difficult to sleep, move etc. Get lots of rest and listen to your body ..

I was kept in for 10days.
They won't usually discharge u until all your observations are correct. I would think unlikely they would send u home if running a fever! That's usually a sure sign there is some sort of infection present. Or another issue.
Blood tests and antibiotics may be required.
Once everything is normal they will discharge u.
