Injuries and Apixaban

Hi all, I have been taking Apixaban for approximately 5 weeks with no apparent side effects until a week ago when I caught the side of my leg on a solid object. This resulted in an fairly instant swelling which refuses to go down, it is very tender to the touch and painful to walk. I have also some bruising further down around my heel. I wonder if anyone else has experienced this kind of reaction and how should it be treated. I would just like to add that the contact did not warrant this kind of reaction.

Many thanks

Unfortunately a very common side effect of apixaban "bruises that come up more easily and take longer to fade than usual" and in your case worse!

Hi solobiker

I’m not on that same med as you. But on others I have had some good haematomas. If it doesn’t go down I would get it checked out, I had to have one of mine drained it took 3 months to heal so don’t leave it to long. The others took a long time to clear by them selfs had lots of bruising but everything was ok.

Hope yours heals quickly for you

Hi, thank you for your reply. I have been to see my GP and she confirmed your opinion that it could take a while to heal. I am new to all this and will have to be a lot more careful in the future.
