Am having OHS on 16th and have heard that one is usually switched over to Warfarin. Why is this? I’ve been ok for 4 years on Apixaban?

Apixaban to Warfarin
Hi Sally, try putting your post on the Atrial Fibrillation (AF) forum website. Someone there may know the answer. Link below:

I didn’t put it there as I don’t have Afib.
To be fair to Jean - it is on your profile that you have AF and you have posted several times on the AF forum? I take it you mean this particular post was not in relation to AF?
Hope all goes well for your surgery.
yeah I should have updated. I was in persistent AF but after 4th cardioversion and a pacemaker being inserted I have not had any AF since then thank God. I have suffered with mitral valve since 2019 but now it is severe hence the OHS on 16th.
Hi Sally. I have just replied to you on another Thread lol 😂. If you can't find it, I'll type it again!!
Hi Sally, if you are having a mechanical valve then, as far as I am aware, warfarin is the only drug that is compatible. I had a mechanical aortic valve 3 years ago and am on warfarin for life unless they come up with a better alternative.Hope the OHS goes well, mine was not nearly as bad as I expected it to be.

I'm having aortic valve replacement on 11 Jan and because my inr has previously been very unstable on warfarin was cahanged to apixaban about 5 years ago. I shall be getting a tissue valve and staying on apixaban for af/aflutter. Best wishes for your OHS x
Hiya Sally. My mam had mitral valve replacement and bypass just over 3 weeks ago. She had a tissue valve because of her age, she's 83, and she is still on rivaoxaban not warfrin. Hope all goes well for you.
Hi Sally, I had a Tissue valve for 19 years. The only medication I was on in that time was aspirin. Warfarin was not needed, unlike now where I have Mech valves.
I hope your op goes well.
