Ear Congestion

Hi

Has anyone experienced ear congestion affecting the ‘Eustachian Tubes’ where the ears feel blocked and muffeled like having a cold?

One of the sub side effects of Bisoprolol mentions this as a lesser side effect. Seems I’m having this annoying issue. Anti-biotics have not cleared it up either.

Thanx

Bisoprolol and other beta blockers are associated with hearing loss.My hearing has deteriorated substantially since being on them. Some of it I put down to my age but it happened so rapidly that I am certain the beta blockers are to blame.

Forgot to mention that I also have very loud tinnitus which doesn't help.

Thanks Stormcloud, I’m only 57 suffer with peripheral nerve damage with the hair folicles in the inners of my ears making my hearing very bad, Tinnitus too, is very bad with me like a steam train’s whistle at the moment. I will speak with my GP about it. The hospital doctor wasn’t to bothered when I mentioned it to him in cardiology today, he was more concerned about getting a Echo done on my leaky A Valve.

This is interesting to me. I have been taking bisoprolol for about 18 months now and my wife things my hearing has got worse. I, of course, don’t, but now I’m thinking well maybe it has (I feel a hearing test coming on). Anyway, back you you - you must have discussed this with your GP to have been prescribed antibiotics. That being the case, if he/she thought your hearing issues were due to bisoprolol he/she could have looked at alternatives - there are a few out there.

Steve, yes, it was only a couple of days ago I read about the less common side affects of Bisoprolol and I don’t think for one moment my GP would even think it was tablet related neither did I until I read about it. So I’ll be booking another app with my Dr to get this looked at. Seems like Bisoprolol causes breathlessness as well which I’m getting. The hospital yesterday were more concerned with the leaky valve than the tablets side effects.

Beta blockers can cause breathlessness - in part because it slows your heart rate - it’s one of the most common complaints about it and other beta-blockers. Lowering the dose can help.
