Hi, put a post up on here about chest pains etc. Get them very randomly, sometimes they’re sharp, and stabbing, and now and again they can be niggly in centre of chest.
They last for a few seconds.
Went to the doctors today, as my stress and anxiety has been through the roof, and become obsessed something is wrong.
I was very anxious and heart rate was up, doctor did blood pressure and it was 130/60.
He’s put me on a beta blocker propranolol
40mg and said it’s all anxiety based. I must admit I’ve only taken them today and I feel night and day better, but can’t help but thinking why do you get the chest pains?
I’m male, 33 non smoker. Any one else suffer with this? Is that blood pressure high or ok?

Hi, yes very similar. I had a stent July 2016 after OHCA whilst cycling. I was given all all, told my arteries are prestine, for me BP low though as is cholesterol however I’ve been niggled by similar pains described. At first told after 25mins of CPR etc, made sense my chest really hurt for a while. But never really gone away. Peaks and troughs. I’ve been to A&E loads of times but I’m also lucky enough to see my cardiologist privately and he says nothing wrong- been suggested it’s damaged cartilage, nerves (I didn’t have any broken ribs) been told it’s in my head! Drives me nuts and leaves me slightly anxious, only positive is it is not always present, is not cause or exAcerbated by excercise and serves as a reminder to me what happened to keep life steady.
To reduce your anxiety you could try meditating or mindfulness - it's basically concentrating and following your breathing.
Your BP isn't high, "normal" is 140/90 so you are in an OK zone. The beta blockers are probably to calm you down, so stop worrying. It doesn't do any good. You might be able to come off the beta blockers then.
I get the same plus a lump in my throat. I’m 9 weeks post stent fitting. I’m told it’s anxiety causing acid reflux and the oesophagus going into spasm. It really gets me down and is hard to ignore. My only comfort is that when I exercise it goes away so it can’t be my heart. I’m hoping it will go in time.
I’m 35 and also got pains that I’m questioning - been on Apixaban and epelerone for the last year. Going to papsworth on Monday for a follow up transplant assessment and it’s hard. Not sure if the pains are anxiety based, just more aware of them with everything going on. Perhaps a bit of both - all I know is they feel very real to me. I was diagnosed last year with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
Keeping myself occupied with things I enjoy doing is helping and meditation - you can use apps like calm and breathing expertises happy to chat more.
