Day 22 full circle ........... The journey starts here

How your life can change in 24 hours !!!!!,

Didn’t mention it yesterday in my post to be honest I forgot . my left calf has been a bit sore the last three days and quite tender and when I tried to get up this morning it was more painful and tender to the touch and I could feel a lump. I had an appointment at the doctors at 9.30am to get my blood pressure checked so I told the nurse and she spoke to a doctor who said I needed to go straight to A&E ............ all I frigging needed !!!

So I phoned my sister in law and she drove me straight there I arrived at 10.30am checked myself in and the TV screen said waiting time 3 hours. Much to my surprise I was seen at 11.15am by a doctor who listened then decided to take my blood pressure oxygen level and 3 files of blood . He measured the circumference of both calf’s. He said he needed to arranged a scan to see if I’d got a blood clot or not. 12.15am I had my scan and unfortunately I had a clot in my vein from my knee and part way up my thigh. At first they thought it was thrombophlebitis which could be treated with painkillers and ibuprofen gel to reduce any inflammation but further investigations showed it was about to become a DVT so I have had to have an injection in my stomach ( blood thinners) then I was allowed home but I’m going to get a call early tomorrow morning to go back to the hospital to organise a treatment plan which may last a few weeks which will consist of daily injections fallowed by another scan in a few weeks. I’d just had two relatively good normal days as you know and now I’ve just been given a proverbial kick in the bollocks !!!

I finally got home at 4pm 5 and a half hours in A&E was just what I’d planned for today NOT!!!!

I’ll need to wait to find out exactly what the plan of treatment is tomorrow and just go with the flow.

I need to try and get my head around it and keep a positive slant it’s just that I had all my exercise planned out for the weekend and now it’s legs elevated and rest .

I’ll update you all after tomorrow’s consultation on what this actually means for my recovery plan

Take care people

Pete ❤️

Sorry that you've had a minor setback, Pete. Great thing is, it's diagnosed and sorted, so take some positivity from that and look forward to implementing your exercise plan.

It's not about what life throws at you, but how you deal with it and from your posts, it strikes me you're pretty much on top of things. Keep the faith and the healing will happen.

Speedy recovery.

Hi Pete, I imagine the injections are Heparin. I had some of these after my bypass. Because I suffer from PAD I could not wear flight socks as although preventing DVT there would have been the potential of a clot in the artery (think of it as a leg attack _ Gary Mabbutt, the ex-footballer, had a well documented one five years ago). The good thing is you did not try to man it out and it is now being monitored. Cheers, Michael...

Hopefully sorted in a few weeks then get back to the original plan

Hey Pete. So Sorry to hear about your leg. As you say the journey starts here. .. again. But whilst this is a setback you will have a treatment plan so work to that and stay focused on daily improvements. You are such a positive person and I know this definitely wasn’t part of the recovery plan but once you get over the shock and the plan is sorted you will have something to focus on. Take care Pete. Sending hugs and positive thoughts Zxx

Take care Z

Can’t wait for tomorrow to find out what they need to do to get rid of the blood clot and how long it might take then I will have a goal to aim for

A colleague got one about a decade ago (sedentary lifestyle). Your own body clears the clot over time and anticoagulants prevent it growing or new ones forming. At least your lifestyle is right which is a big plus. It will take a few weeks though.

I’ve only just joined this group so I do not know your history but whatever you have been through, dont give up. A&E visits are a real trial and so time consuming. Good thing is you recognised you had a problem and dealt with it in a good way, though I feel your GP could have referred you straight to DVT clinic and that would have saved your frustrating wait. Good luck for tomorrow

Hi Dunestar

From the outset I said I’d try to keep positive which I’ve managed so far if i didn’t keep looking for some positivity I’d go bananas. I completely understand how some people on this journey have become emotional wrecks or even depressed I’m just determined to stay focused

Keep plugging away Pete, these ups and downs seem to be part of the cycle of events until it all really settles down! At least you are concerned enough and have good folk around to help with all the tooing and froing to the hospital, etc. I know after my big op I felt so much better intitially that I could visualise climbing Everest or something else ridiculous, just so good to be able to lay flat in bed or walk the dog round the block without being exhausted. But then... along comes a morning when I got breathless out walking and I am sure stress plays a big part in it. Also pains in the calf muscles and worries about blood clots like you -fortunately not in my case but you still worry. Now I have a cold, cough and sniffles and worry that will cause fluid back on the lungs - hope not but the first cold in months since my op -another hurdle to get over. As I say keep plugging away and with a bit of luck and good care you will get over this particular hurdle. All the best!
