Hi , I had a heart attack on Monday 17sept and 2 stents fitted on Wednesday 19sept , I'm 67 and still working as a builder, early days as I said but pretty unsure of everything at the moment, to early to ask for advice?
Early days: Hi , I had a heart attack... - British Heart Fou...
Early days
It's never too early to ask for advice. It could be a warning that you need to slow down at least.
Thank you
Agree with Rbrealey's advice and change your diet. Cut fat and refined sugars out of your diet, say goodbye to alcohol if you haven't done so already. Lots of veg and fruit reduction in red meat, no snacking rubbish. Complete life style change, I did it you can do it as well. If your following the above already I'd see a Cardiologist for further advice, good luck and you will be back to normal soon.
Hi - have you enrolled in the Cardiac Rehab program? You’re probably pretty fit being a builder but you will be able to speak to the cardiac nurses every week for advice and they also give talks on the drugs, diet, stress management and monitor how you are doing generally. It really is worth doing and if it hasn’t been offered speak to your GP about it.
Good luck and think about some lifestyle changes - could be time to take it easy x
I had a heart attack on August 12th. I think I'm still in shock. Still struggling with side effects of a couple of the tablets; hard to come to terms with having to take tablets forever and worried about every twinge , pain and bit of breathlessness. Give it time, remember the damage to your heart has to heal like any injury. Go for rehab when it's offered and change your diet and if you do smoke, then stop. Do what you feel you can but nothing strenuous yet. Good luck
I can give examples if this helps....morning porridge with blueberries with Almond/Soy milk pinch of Tumeric & Ceylon cinnamon, coffee. Fruit for snacks, lunch tuna sandwich with red onion, salad on wholemeal bread with water. afternoon raw fruit with raw almonds, dinner baked salmon with baked sweet potato, brown rice with veges, natural yogurt for dessert, herbal tea...then bed. This was the sort of diet that I used for 3 years after my nearly loss of life heart attack to completing an Ironman endurance event in France. As you can see no juice (full of sugar), no biscuits (full of sugar), no fried food, just raw food, limited salt.Never used low fat yogurt or fruit yogurt (full of sugar) never used low fat mayo in tuna sandwich (full or sugar)..........you eat like this I feel so good now, I feel sick when I try junk food or any processed foods. And please pig out every so often, you have to live life! just eat more healthy. Alcohol I rarely have just special meetups, i'm 49 I just find alcohol slows you done can't be bothered with it anymore, those days are over not interested in pubs, as as I say other meetups.
I know someone who had a bypass (maybe a decade younger). He has returned to his fairly physical job but t took over a year. Be guided by the rehab nurses and your own body.
I returned my work after triple bypass operation. I am plumber but I am working under light duties, I stopped alcohol and bad eating
. Try eat fish and chickens and use olive oil with salad they really good.
Good luck
Hi my ha was June 16th and 2 stents done quickly . I'm lucky and had just retired so no work issues . Cardiac rehab has been brilliant for me . Lots of pills and restricted to 106max bmp. Been cycling for 6 weeks and increasing distance steadily .today did 20 miles with 1500ft elevation increase. All thanks to my electric bike . My left heart chamber pumping efficiency has improved from 40 to 65 percent since ha.
All I can say is best of luck and follow the advice of the cardiac rehab nurses and don't expect to get better in a hurry it does take time .
Thank you all for your advice, all of it helpful, only just got home from hospital had a "funny turn " yesterday and was taken in by ambulance, seem to be ok know maybe anxiety something to do with it , once again thank you for the help
