Ask the Job Centre for an HC1 application form for assistance with prescription charges. If you qualify for assistance you will get either an HC2 certificate (free prescriptions) or an HC3 (reduced cost). Also consider a prepayment certificate (£104 per annum = £2 per week) which means after 12 items the rest are FOC.

It does depend what benefits you are on, but if you are under job centre then they can advise you, as can a pharmacist. If you cannot get reduced or free prescriptions, you can get a 3 month or 12 month "season ticket" which reduces cost considerably.

If you do not qualify for free prescription and decide to opt for a prepayment certificate this can be paid monthly mine is about ten pounds a month. Be sure to ask for an official reclaim receipt for any prescriptions payed for after the certificate applied for as if you do no have they will not be refunded. When my card arrived the pharmacy refunded the charges directly to my bank card no need to wait for a Cheque etc.

First thing is to check with pharmacy if you qualify for free prescription. If not prepayment is the way to go. It will cover any and all prescriptions issued for you not just those for your heart meds.
