Hi for the second time in three months when collecting prescription from Boots chemist I have been advised that there is a manufacturing issue with the tablet Eplerernone and that I should call back later in the week to see if they have managed to source a supply. Last month I had to get another prescription from my GP as they had sourced 25mg tablets instead of the 50mg tablets.
Is anyone else having the same problems and is there an alternative to Eplerernone ?

In over half-a-century of Type I diabetes I have seen a number of shortages. I moved to an independent pharmacy years ago as I felt he makes more effort to resolve any supply or prescription issues.
My GP surgery does all my dispensing as we live in a rural area, never had an issue with Eplerenone apart from when they have forgotten to order it. An alternative is Spironolactone but no idea what it is like or what it is prescribed for.
Unfortunately drug shortages do occur from time to time and for many different reasons. Usually its because of issues with the chemistry for the actual drug substance and since Eplerernone is a generic, its likely that is where the problem lies. There are alternative treatments and drugs out there. I suggest you have a chat with your GP to warn them of the issues so that they can switch you to an alternative if you can't get your current treatment.
