I am having a pacemaker fitted next week, after 18 months of dizziness and passing out. I am also type 2 diabetic. I joined here to get more info and post op chat.

Relax it is a very minor procedure. You will only need one or two stitches, and should be home the same or next day.

I have had Type I diabetes and was involved in support for over a decade. You need to control your diabetes as best you can so as not to confuse symptoms. Your diabetes may be slightly more difficult to control for a week or so. Good luck!

Had mine fitted about 2 mths ago, very quick procedure which leaves a two inch scar just under your collar bone, mine has healed nicely and I would expect that this time next year it will be hardly noticeable. I’m definitely less breathless and having less dizzy spells but I also have a thyroid problem that could be making me slightly dizzy, my palpitations have decreased also, again I’m expecting them to go once my thyroid is sorted. You normally stay in overnight so that they can monitor your first 24hrs and then you’ll be good to go. Obviously there will be soreness around the scar site and you cannot lift your arm above your shoulder for the first six weeks but other than that nothing to worry about. Hope this helps.

It’s ok but it hurts for a good 6 weeks afterwards.

I had mine fitted 8 weeks ago and the procedure is straightforward

Feeling much better and the scar isn't too noticeable. I actually keep forgetting about it.
