Is it normal to get moments of being breathless after the fitting of a pacemaker? I had the operation last week and feel breathless walking upstairs or up an incline? Has anyone else experienced this and will it settle down?

Feeling breathless after pacemaker was fitted
Thank you. Will phone the Pacemaker clinic on Monday. It just feels so unsettling.
Yes I was very breathless after pm op. My pacing clinic sent me for another X-ray which thankfully was ok but it took a while for the breathless feeling to get better.Hopefully you did have an X-ray after it was fitted ?!
Yes I had x-ray after the op and that was ok. Hopefully it will settle soon. I need to lower my expectations!
Absolutely! I had exactly the same experience 6 months ago and was disappointed that my exercise tolerance was so much worse than before pacemaker. Was helped massively when settings tweaked at 6 wk check up. I wish I had been forewarned about it at procedure then I would have been less concerned and less impatient with myself. Good luck. Elaine.
That makes sense 😀
Anxiety can cause a load of issues with the bodies ability to run itself. you mention you are anxious that increases BP HR a day multitude of other things that can send out certain messages. The hospital would be aware of what could be going on. We all understand things differently and sometimes not at all. Go back to the hospital and get them to explain what is really going on with you. In time it will get better when you’re not focusing on what’s just happened you may come to the point where you think is it working.
Hi SMHW
I had my pacemaker fitted last July and Av node ablation last September and I still get breathless ,by my cardiologist did warn me this could happen .
Apparently breathlessness wears off after some time for some people, fingers crossed yours settles down ..
Thank you. Hope so too!
Hi there! I had my PM fitted a couple of years ago. A couple of days after while recovering at home I too kept getting breathless. I was a very fit 42 yr old and climbing the stairs in my home now made me breathless, despite the week before I was running up them without a care. I called NHS24 as was told to go to A&E for checks just as a precaution. Had another X-ray etc. And all was absolutely fine. Went to Pacemaker clinic on the Monday and all checks were fine too. Glad to say 2 years later and I’m running up the stairs again no probs! I’m sure you are absolutely fine too but it is always worth getting checked to stop any unnecessary worry!
Hi, yes I'm getting the same. I had mine done a week ago & I still get palpitations too. I have pain in my left arm & can't sleep properly. From what I'm told & read it is common
