so, odd thing happening. I've recently been to see an osteopath about pains in my back, which are apparently related to the fact that I've had loads of surgery on my chest. the tension is building slowly, travelling down my back and is accumulating at the bottom of my spine. it's really painful, and i was just wondering if this is a common thing with heart surgery, or if anyone knew of any tips or anything to deal with back pain???

In protecting your breastbone you may have strained your back somewhat. Exercises to build up your core strength would probably help - a physiotherapist might be more appropriate.
I agree with MichaelJH. If you have had your chest cut open the natural tendency is to pull your shoulders forward to protect your chest - in effect you hunch everything inwards. I’m having physio treatment on my left shoulder currently due in no small part to the ‘hunched’ shoulders.
