I have been told that I have severe heart disease but not been diagnosed with angina. Over the last couple of weeks I have been getting pains in my chest (sometimes even at rest) which spreads to both arms. I have gtn spray which I use and I seems to cure it.
My question is should I go to hospital or just wait as I have an appointment for stents to be inserted in June ?
Thanks
Dave

Never does any harm to seek medical guidance if you are concerned. If you can't speak to your GP, you can always ring the BHF Heart Helpline for advice - 0300 330 3311. Good luck.
Hi Diawro. My instruction is to call an ambulance if I’ve taken two sprays In succession and it hasn’t taken the angina away. ‘Typical’ angina for me is left sided, arm, neck, back and chest pains (not v intense), but it varies enormously between people. Hope this helps.
Thanks for your reply. My pain does not cover that many areas but I did speak to the BHF and they told me as long as I can control it I should be fine.
The symptoms you are describing do sound like ' typical' angina to me ,even if you weren't experiencing them prior to your diagnosis. If you find you are needing to use the GTN more regularly and especially if you are getting chest pain at rest,I would advise you to make an appointment to see your GP.They would be able to see if there are any other types of medication you could be taking to control your symptoms while you await your stent procedure.
As mentioned by some of the others on here, if the GTN spray doesn't work within a total of 10-15 minutes in total, calling an ambulance is the next thing to do.
