Driving ban ?
Hi Kendal137 , it's probably best to speak to the DVLA but the BHF has some guidance on this: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/liv...
Hope you're recovering well, let us know at the BHF if you need any further support
Hi. Sorry to be the one to say this, but I think your licence will be revoked for a minimum of 6 months. Here is the web link for the DVLA:
gov.uk/guidance/cardiovascu...
It is for your own safety and other road users.
You can access the notification form online you send this to the DVLA and you will get the paperwork returned to you to get your cardiologist to complete when the DVLA advise you can reapply for your licence.
Good luck.
I am in the same situation, and I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but in my situation - having an ICD fitted following a cardiac arrest - meant that I had cut up my driving licence and send it to the DVLA. I have been banned for six months. I can request my consultant to authorise the renewal of my licence after six months.
I don't need it for work, so it might be best for you to talk to your consultant. You can't be the only one in this situation! Best of luck.
Thanks for that.does anyone have any feedback on ablation operations
Hello, mine has gone off 5 times in 2 years, i checked with consultant and i was told 5 days. When i first had the ICD fitted was told 6 months but then after checking it was 4 weeks that i was not allowed to drive.
I think it is probably set in stone (sorry)
Your insurance won't cover you if you drive outside of these recommendations,
So you'll be driving without insurance so not worth taking a risk.
It must be a horrible situation to be in, not even sure what to suggest unless you have an apprentice who can drive for you. I guess that if you drive a van you have tools as part of your trade.
I really hope you can think of a short term solution but it looks like do need to take the 6 months out unless your GP or cardiologist make a case against this.
