Cardiology Consultant started me on these tablets for angina, but the info. leaflet filled me with dread!
Did ask the pharmacist yesterday when I collected the prescription and he was pretty comprehensive, but am not totally reassured. Has anyone else taken them?

ADIZEM-SR is the brand name and the active drug is Diltiazem hydrochloride. This is a calcium channel blocker and it works by relaxing the muscles of your heart and blood vessels which will help your angina symptoms as it will reduce the workload of the heart and improve blood perfusion.
It can be quite overwhelming when reading the medication information as it is so comprehensive. I would recommend discussing this further with your GP if you have any additional concerns. However be reassured that this drug is commonly prescribed for patients suffering from angina.
Thank you Emily...have been taking them for a week, and have to admit that I notice a difference in my breathlessness and chest pains....but now constipated!!!
Each of us is different so I think it best to give then a try (they are quite effective). I was prescribed them alongside isosorbide mononitrate. After three months I developed problems with them. They were stopped but my mononitrate dose doubled. My impression was that they were slightly more effective at warding off angina
I have been on them in differing doses from 2011 and feel they have helped me and I have had no side effects from them. Everyone is different but don’t be scared off by the leaflet read a paracetamol one or ibuprofen leaflet everything can have side effects. Take them as directed and if you have side effects talk to the Pharmacist or GP but sometimes it takes days to weeks for your body to adjust.
It’s one of the few tablets I have had no issues with so have faith you must have symptoms to warrant meds being given.
Hi I was prescribed 180mg Diltiazem XL, as I have Raynauds. This one will not effect it. I have been on them for over a month now. Not had any side effects. But they want my GP to tiltrate them. I guess that's jargon for upping the dose. Will let you know if that makes any difference.
