Undertaking some detailed study of how the heart works (or doesn't).

Hi everyone, I was diagnosed wth Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation about 16 years ago. After an episode where my troponin level was elevated, I now suffer bouts of Ventricular Ectopy. Treatment with a Beta Blocker has been proposed, but a slow resting heartbeat would necessitate the fitting of a pacemaker. As I play the drums and take regular exercise, I am not keen on either of these treatments. In the meantime, treatment consists of a daily dose of Flecainide, which seems to be helping.

As someone who has studied quite a lot, I feel I should understand a little more about my body and this condition specifically. The online resources are OK, the BHF website being right up there with the best of them, but only go down to a certain level. They don't seem to answer, for example, questions like: Why and how do the heart cells produce extra triggers that create the extra beats?

So, can anyone suggest some in-depth reading that can help improve my knowledge?
