I am 2 weeks post op and have this annoying irritating cough. Not a productive cough more a tickle cough. Is this normal? Went to the GP who tested my chest and back which were clear - thought it might be because I have a hiatus hernia and gave me some gaviscon but does not seem to have made any difference. Has anyone else got this symptom and what can be done to cure it?

Could just be an irritation as a result of the surgery, but have they put you on any new medication? An irritating cough is quite a common side effect of many medicines - I had that reaction to ramipril and a painkiller I was given after my recent surgery.

If I get a cough now I use Ricola herbal sweets, they work really well and taste nicer than cough sweets.

Hi. I had a CABGx3 in October last year - so welcome to the club. My guess would be your medication is the likely cause, especially Ramipril if you are taking that. I’d go back and see your GP as I’m guessing the coughing hurts, a lot. Areyou hugging a cushion when you cough - it helps a bit.

Ramipril gave me a cough and loss of voice, consultant switched me to another ACE inhibitor and the symptoms disappeared
